Real Reviews by Real Users!
This post has two parts, one highlighting my experience with the Desire C, the other is my review.

My experience with this phone

This was my first phone that I rooted. I remember when the only ROM's we had were a very alpha CM9, Explosion ROM by Seanny, and good old Nameless ROM. I even remember when we lacked a sub-forum for this device! I wanted to root my phone because it got very slow. I really liked the phone, the screen was perfect for me, the camera was great for the extremely few shots I took with my phone, and it did everything I wanted it to do. Keep in mind I didn't know alot about the power of Android, I just looked at my phone as a phone that can play Super Hexagon and send texts. I didn't ask for much from the phone, and it didn't give me any troubles. Now, I was happy for a while, before my friend got a GNex and started telling me about all these apps, different widgets and launchers I should try out. I tried out Nova Launcher, and fell in love with the stock Android look of Nova Launcher. Then my phone started slowing down, messaging took ages to load, carrying out a call was a pretty bad experience and even scrolling my timeline on Twitter or even Settings was too much for the Desire C. I realized that I had asked too much from the Desire C, so I rooted and installed Nameless v5 with a custom ROM.

That did the trick, but it still was slow and after a while, it was back to where I was before rooting the phone; slow. I keep seeing posts by XDA members that we should try to get working on CyanogenMod for our device, because Sense was holding our device back. So I waited for the devs to get on it, because I know ****-all about developing and programming. To fill that gap of waiting, I flashed russell664's Revolution ROM's and enjoyed it alot (still running Revolution Sense) but after seeing the beauty of Stock Android, and the hope that the lack of Sense will speed up my phone, I couldn't wait no more. At that point, CM10 was being developed and there was a lack of Wi-Fi. I didn't have any data on my plan, but I have unlimited usage from my ISP, so I was Wi-Fi only. Then, the day came where there was a Wi-Fi fix. I flashed it immediately, and there was a HUGE difference from a Sense Desire C to a non-Sense Desire C. Apps opened quicker, exiting apps was really fast, scrolling was smooth, and the best part is when I started adding back that I had pre-CM10, my phone did slow down, but I was still very impressive. I thank all the devs and the members of this community for bringing this phone to where it is today. Without this community, this phone would be "just another cheap Android phone".

Review of the Desire C

Screen is great for watching movies and YouTube videos on. Battery was never an issue on my HTC Desire C, it always lasted longer than I anticipated (I actually miss the HDC's batt life after switching to a N4). I am not one to judge the camera on this phone, I am no means a pro photographer, let alone someone who likes taking pictures, so I can't comment in detail about this aspect of the phone. Although, it's great for the 1 or 2 times I bothered to take a picture :D. Call quality depends entirely on the carrier's signal, the strength of the connection and the microphone on both ends of the call. I found it to be bad sometimes and great other times. No reviewer should judge call quality, because there is too much variables to make a judgement on. Loudspeaker is... loud? It's good when compared to the god-of-tinny-noise Nexus 4. The phone feels great in the hands, and it a very solid-built smartphone. I dropped it 2 times from about 3ft onto solid hardwood and it survived. Buttons are clicky. Software on the other hand, I would say it depends on what you would like to do on your phone. It's a $150 phone, with low-specs. It runs fine if you don't install high-end games like Dead-Trigger. If you do, then it will slow down, which I failed to realize after 3 times. (I barely have any apps on my N4 because of all the ROM's ) One of my friends owns this phone and he stuffed it full of different widgets, launchers, custom messaging/calling apps, even 3 different lockscreens! It was really slow, and even he couldn't bear it, so he wiped his phone. He didn't bloat up his phone again, so it was pretty decent to use for everyday.

I guess that last statement sums up the phone pretty well: it's a decent phone for the price.

tl;dr phone much decent
This will be my review of the Desire C. It will undergo several changes at some points of time I'm not sure of.
Going way back when I got my first Android device (this one). It was in the shop a year ago and I was given the choice of the super expensive at the time One X or this little Desire C. Now I only had really minor experience with this OS (unlocking the screen, downloading apps, etc.) and was really tempted to buy the One X just because the beast specs it had. I actually got this one because I was afraid to lose my big new shiny phone. GolfU had a really comfy shape for my hand. I swear it has gotten bigger now (my hand) because with each passing day I feel as the phone shrinks but that is a whole new story. Anyways I was kinda disappointed to find that HTC wasn't planning on releasing a lot of updates for, after i got interested and familiar with the Android platforms. So I kinda set out on a quest to find an alternative. The stock ROM was getting slower and slower with each passing day, so I came here with this device and started modding it.
The goods:
/ Comfy to use with one or two hands.
/ Neat screen with nice colors
/ Fun with nice colors (especially black/red)
/ Price price price. So good.
/ Really sturdy. I've dropped it like 30 times. It has been coated with apple soda, water, salted water, rain, and some other liquids I'm not proud to mention.
/ Great camera. Just look at at the attached pictures, damnit.

The bads:
/ Not enough internal porn space.
/ Laggy Stock ROM but that is kinda understandable.
/ Decent to pretty good development but by no means like the other titans like pico, One X, HTC One, etc

Great thread to have here, this should have been here ever since we got our own forum for this device! Thanks a lot for getting all these links and hardware specs together in a nice and clean thread post! We all should ask a mod to sticky this in the general section!

The bad
The display isn’t at the same level of HTC’s more stellar smartphones such as the HTC Desire One X. Its 480 x 320 pixel display isn’t as clear, or as bright, but still manages to cope adequately in bright conditions, but don’t expect it to blow you away.

""The camera is fixed focus"", which means you’ll never get close to the high quality photos possible on more advanced smartphones. You’ll need steady hands to get the best shots from the Desire C. There’s also no flash.

This review from the gadget show
You can see that the camera is auto fixed not auto focus :)

Oh! Its time to watch Family Guy :D

I think mods detorate some parts of our stock working stuff

but also improve some.

@aashay960 Since Shreyan is not sticking to it and hasn't updated the bloody index thread, why don't you add in one into this, ask the people of the 3,4,5 posts to help out, put in guides, Roms, and kernels, make it sticky, rename it to just Ultimate Desire C thread? :3

Right now my first priority will be to improve this thread a little further so that it gets stickied (otherwise its useless). There was some misunderstanding between me and the mods which has been sorted now. I will look for ways to improve this thread. Any help will be appreciated.

Regarding the Index thread, it is a pretty big commitment and requires a lot of hard work. I am willing to do it (will probably open a separate thread) but i will have to set up some rules like if you update or release a rom, leave a notice in the index thread. You know what I mean? I saw a forum (dont remember device) where it was compulsory to mention the 'last update date' in the title of the rom. This way it becomes easier for the new members as well.

I will think about that. But i will ask for Shreyan's permission before (and if) I decide to go ahead with it...

I was also thinking about updating that thread by Air_Combat. It is a really helpful thread but it is outdated and buried in the general section which is sad :(

Bro, :) I am 100% sure that it doesn't has auto focus.......One way to verify this is that there is no green thingy when we capture a pic...It does't even have touch to focus cause it simply don't have auto focus.. @aashay960 No need to get confused Bro :)

Check out the 5 links in the comparison section. Our phone comes last in all :( Even when compared to cheaper phones.

It does beat pico in terms of specs but then pico is almost 35% cheaper than our phone and has a much better development in the forums :p

Before this I had a galaxy ace and can say this is a lot better!
A friend has pico and it is good with some of the custom ROMs.
My main phone is defy mini mainly for waterproof and rugged build but because of locked boot loader and little development is very slow.

According to me the major drawbacks of this phone are the CPU and the display (resolution and pixel density). Otherwise its a great phone given the price. Also, it is one of the cheapest phones that come pre-installed with ICS. :)

This is kinda embarrassing but it took me almost 2 months to realize that we can 'swipe away the notifications' :p lol
And also, I'll never forget the time I was rooting this phone. I was dead scared that I would mess something up :p

The price and ICS is why I got this as my spare, It took me a while to learn the functions too!
For me it works great. My galaxy ace was bad in comparison and had no memory.
Rooting this was easy compared to some phones!
