:Mysterious Beast:
:A Collaboration between Thomasskull666 and Mysteryemotionz:

A mix of popular themes/customizations bundled into a visually pleasing package.

Introducing the Mysterious Beast theme:
  • Based off of the BlackFroyo port for the Vibrant located here made by Samcrow
  • Combines many elements from Emotionless Beast including 3G icons, status bar pulldown icons, skinned Swype.apk, branding change (courtesy of Mysteryemotionz), and 1% battery mod.
  • Lots of customizations by me, detailed below.
  • android.policy.jar courtesy of Dreamsforgotten

This originally started as a port of the BlackFroyo theme that was ported for the Vibrant, but eventually transformed into something much more than that. After having some discussions with mysteryemotionz, we decided to use this as a base for the next edition in the "Beast" line of themes. After getting lots of useful add-ons from mystery, I started to do custom modifications on the theme myself. As well as changes to the framework, I also themed several system apps to make them fit the theme better. Below is a list of apps themed:

  • Browser.apk
  • Vending.apk (Black Market theme)
  • Mms.apk (No-bubble Mms, courtesy of keysoh2 located here
  • Contacts.apk
  • Swype.apk (Thanks to mysteryemotionz for this!)
  • DialerTabActivity.apk
  • Google Search Widget app
  • Samsung Program Monitor widget (Transparent background)
  • YouTube.apk
  • Completely customized TouchWiz30Launcher.apk, with changed homescreen icons and removed app drawer icon backgrounds
  • Gmail.apk (Icon) NOTE: Attached to this post is the working Gmail.apk taken from the Bonsai ROM from Mammon88. Just flash like usual on top of this if you experience FC with the Gmail app.
  • Settings.apk (Power Controls widget themed as well as Settings menu)

And here is a list of the customization made by myself to the original theme:
  • Custom Status Bar background and full pulldown
  • Modified Mms icons
  • Lots of buttons
  • Too many more to list...

And now without further ado, here are the mirrors. There are two versions for you to download, one including the custom transition animations by M@XLOL located here, and the other without the animations.

This was designed around the ACS DK28 ROM created by k0nane and located here. Many of the apks in this theme were taken from the ROM. I cannot guarantee that this will work on other ROMs, mostly because I don't know what they have modified. I take no responsibility for what happens after you download this theme, the flashing process is in YOUR hands and you are the only one to be held responsible in the very rare event that something goes wrong.

Just so you guys know, this isn't compatible with Mammon's Bonzai ROM v1.0.1 - I got a huge stack of force close messages immediately upon boot that I couldn't get out of.

I did see that the vanilla lock screen is on there though - did you guys fix the problem with it returning to the TW lock screen when a message is received?

I didn't even know this was an issue, but I just tried and it seems to stick to the AOSP lockscren. This was done by Dreamsforgotten, the resident theming guru if you will lol.

As for the Bonzai ROm, I have not ever flashed it so I can't guarantee compatibility. Try removing the "app" folder in the .zip file to see if it is an apk causing the issue.

Deleting the system/app folder worked, no more FC's on Bonzai v1.0.1

BTW since you have the only 100% working AOSP lock screen for DK28, could you post a non-themed version if you get a chance? That would be quite handy to have :D

Excellent, glad that did the trick, but now your missing out on all the themed apps lol. If you get a chance, I mean if you really have nothing better to do lol, try flashing the apps in the app folder 1 by 1 to see which one/s causes the issue. Tedious, I know no worries if you don't feel like it.

The AOSP lockscreen is controlled by android.policy.jar located in /system/framework. The images themselves are in framework-res.apk, so inserting this into a non-themed ROM would give you just the stock AOSP lockscreen. The modified android.policy.jar is in my .zip, and you are more than welcome to place this in a .zip file of your choice in /system/framework, which will give the AOSP lockscreen on basically any theme/ROM.

Excellent - I suspected the image files were separate but didn't want to start talking out of my you-know-what, thank you for explaining what files I need for the lock screen. I'll be happy to test the apps tomorrow and will report back. So I should just make a flashable zip for each indivdual app and flash through Clockwork, or is there a more efficient way like using root explorer to put them each in the app folder?

You can go the root explorer way if you know what your doing. That would be the quickest way out testing.

Very strange - when I installed the apps one-by-one using Root Explorer, I had no FC's except for GMail. My GMail is v2.3.2 and the themed Gmail is v2.3 - could that cause it to FC? I tried clearing data on GMail and it didn't help. Updating the app worked, but then of course it's no longer themed.

I have the new Android Market...is this going to cause any issues?

No, the Market is not themed.

Don't blame yourself.. blame you teacher... he's the worst at finishing what he started hahahaha

Slowly but surely. That's our motto:D Actually almost done. Gotta decompile the framework and make a change or two but the end is near. Its coming along nicely;) Stay tuned. And I don't blame my teacher for anything but giving me the knowledge and tools to get me started on theming for a device that I love so much because of all the great devs that have put their all into making this phone what it is today, and a community of users that are like family, you all are great and even when an upgrade comes, as long as this phone stays in action I plan on theming as long as I can for everyone.
Its been some great times here in the epic community, the good and bad. I couldn't think of a better bunch of people to be in the mix with. Thank you XDA and the Epic community in whole. :D:);)
