1 i uninstalled market with titanium backup

2, uninstalled market updates. and then i uninstalled com.android.vending.sumthingsumthing.etc.apk (what came up after "market updates" was uninstalled)

3, flash the stock android market found here and rebooted checking the apps, market was missing

4 booted back to CWM and flashed emerald

5 booted up still no market.

6 posting this as Recovery restores my nandroid
im not sure what the com.android something is. that isnt in my method. you may have to try a few times. i just have found that this method has worked consistently more then any other

I have tried it many times, I tried before i posted and read a lot of the thread.

after i do step #2 Market is gone from that list and its relapsed with com.android.vending 0.0 KB
So i thought i would try that seeing that i have tried it many times the other way

I'm kind of lost as where to go from hear:( How come after step 3 i dont see market in apps? is that normal?

Uninstalled Market, uninstalled updates, flashed stock, re-booted, verified I had a Market, flashed Red Market, re-booted, and........

no Market at all...

Until....

I remembered reading that this version is actually named Red Market- and BOO-YA!!!!!!! Loaded fine, found that there were updates, updated Slacker perfectly with no FCs whatsoever. AHHHHH!!! Can't believe I finally got it to work..

Major props to everyone involved, and you're all getting a beer on me so you better have donate links in your sigs! Thanks especially to Fernando for stickin with me, and everyone else who you've helped.

If you guys keep this going, and release future updates, something that would be really epic would be to change the color of the download progress bar. Obviously black wouldn't work so hot, but that would just be an amazing add-on :D

In applications (the stock uninstall list)

i am booting up as i write this. this time i tried an old titanium backup copy of market i had from November

1 i uninstalled 2.2.11 market with TB
then i installed 2.2.7 then i decided to uninstall that.

skipped step 2

Move to step 3 and 4.

Still no market I know that's totally NOT the steps in the OP but the OP has not worked for me & i'm just trying to get something to work out.

restoring.....................................................nandroid..................a......gain....

Any idea why the gmail dose not work? the only flashed mod installed on my phone right now is Mobile AP. I guess my phone does not like your sweet looking color mods  But i like them:)

Awesome! Very happy you got it. The download progress bar is actually set in your framework/res/drawables folder. It is in the xml progress horizontal.xml. Mine for instance is blue

Can any one help?

I'v followed the 4 steps in the OP quite a few times.

The gmail flash messes up the home screen widgets & icons go missing if you re-add them they go missing on the next boot.

The Market does not seem to work at all (its missing from app drawer). IDK if its the stock market flash in the OP that does not work on my Epic? but flashing the color mods with out doing the stock flash first and trying many other combinations of removing, deleting, uninstlling,

When i go to applications (step 2) and uninstall market updates the spot in the list is replaced with "com.android.vending 0.0 KB "

Question

Is that normal ? do you guys see that?

i can uninstall that also & i have tried doing that & leaving it to and moving on the step #3 (like that OP says to)

2.1 DI18 stock ROM

There was someone not to far back on the thread who.had the market renamed to that. Also remember the market is renamed in the app drawer. With gmail it sounds like you may have two in your system/app. Look and make sure. If the one your replacing doesnt have a capital g then that can cause havoc and screw up your widgets.

Does any thing look out of place ?

yes you need to uninstall the com.android.vending. if that is running you have the stock market installed. you also have a market in system app but that is probably not installed. uninstall your market with titanium backup. it will show up as market in the titanium list of apps. then go to settings/applications/market and uninstall updates. then flash the stock market and then your market of choice. delete the gmail provider.

THANK YOU for providing the screenshots!! everyone should do that

The Gmail.apk in system/app has a "G" in Gmail.apk

Can I just rename "Vending.apk" to "com.android.vending.apk" in the zip and replace "Vending.apk" in all scripts?

If I edit the zip do I have to use adb or can I just use winrar or somthing?

Or should I try renaming data/app/com.android.vending.apk to "Vending.apk"

Thanks for taking the time to try and help me

Market failed again nandroiding....................

I did just as you said after the stock market flash i checked the app drawer it was missing. Is that normal?

Checked settings/applications/ also at that point and it still said com.android.vending.apk But that file in data/app was gone.

Flashed gmail cyan same result moved the gmail provider.apk (to back up on the sdcard)

when the phone boots up after all the flashing is done my app drawer is shot 2 apps gmail and market are missing.

the icon in root exp for gmail.apk is just green android robot NOT the gmail icon.

Maybe this just does not work with android 2.1 eclair :(

Its really bugging me i just dont want to ODIN the phone,
