According to the following article, there is a security flaw in the Linux kernel that has allowed for Root access since 2013.!!!!! So if you are like me and still love your
"old faithfull(note 3)" then dont give up just yet. Lets see if developers or KingRoot,KingoRoot,OneClick Root devs take advantage of this exploit.
Any word updates post them on this thread.!

If you look at the amount of traffic on this whole forum....let alone how few messages in this thread...and you'll see I am right.

Sorry

As for developers, yes, the Note 3 is ancient history. For the daily user, there are still many out there. I'd love to have root, but I don't have much experience on that end. I'd made a few custom roms several years ago, but completely not the same. I've made some inquires, and nobody seems willing to invest in a subset (non-rooted 4.4.4 or 5.0) of a subset (Verizon) of an older device (Note 3). It's sad to say, but we've been left behind.

This is an exploit that affects a wide range of devices.

If someone exploits it on a newer device...that exploit would also work for the Note 3. If not, it would be very close to working.

I am hopeful :)

Reading up on this, we are not affected...

The vulnerability affects any Linux Kernel version 3.8 and higher.
So if we can install a newer kernel (not happening), we can root with this method. The Note 3 will never be upgraded past kernel 3.4.0, under Lollipop 5.0.

If it is, this exploit will almost assuredly be patched...the only hope is if we can somehow upgrade the kernel to a vulnerable version without a legitimate OEM update.

Because of the locked bootloader, the kernel can not be upgraded via a signed Verizon update.

In other words....Verizon won't update the kernel and you can't.

There really isn't thats why i switched to a nexus 6 and i couldn't be happier.
I'm still over a year out on my contract, and frankly, I love the Note 3. Well, I love the s pen aspect. I could go on Ebay and find a Note 4, but that's about it. The Note 5 fails at what I'd want. More manufactures should have something like the s pen. It sucks only on line of one manufacture uses the higher quality pen input.

Hoping for Root on note 3 (verizon)

So, I still have my Verizon note 3 and use it often. Great phone, still fast and reliable.
A friend just gave me a Tmobile Note 3 asking if I could root it. I decided to start with his and then try mine afterwards.
I succeeded rooting the Tmobile Note 3 a few days ago. Decided, why stop there and gave it a shot on my Verizon Note 3.
Quickly learned the same process would not work.
Just recently came upon this thread after quite a bit of searching the interwebs.
I guess this is what I was looking for and feared finding at the same time.
Here's my takeaway from the research I've done:
-Cant get safestrap installed without root...
-Towelroot stopped working in 2014 and none of the oneclick methods work anymore.
-Can't get any custom recoveries installed either with the bootloader locked.

The summary being...the Verizon Note 3 (5.0) is not rootable?:crying:

A quote from there posted by lilrob29

"Please make your decision: 02[*] WAITING FOR APPEAR YOUR DIVECE N900V[*] ROOT INSTALLING NOW ...IF Working You Should See A Whole Screen Of ########## down the left side of screen[*] If The Process Hangs For More Than 2 Minutes Close Dialog Pull Battery On*"

Notice the reference to n900v.
I know it probably doesn't mean much, just so.e hope. It's fun to beat the dead horse.
