HI,
bought the device about 5 months ago (still under warranty), still 100% stock in every regard.
I am having an issue where if the device is rotated and it switches from portrait to landscape the phone will shut off. It is NOT consistent and it occurs with Music apps, camera, S4B/Lync, chrome/samsung internet apps.

I have already factory reset the device, but still happens. Again, no rhyme or reason aside from the rotation which doesn't even happen every time

Any thoughts as to what to do since i have already reset it? Warranty is an option, but i don't want to pay for advanced replacement nor buy a new phone.

Thanks for your thoughts
Chris

Which device do you have XT..? There's little to nothing you can do with locked bootloader, except an official firmware upgrade. What's your firmware version/security patch version?

Hmm, that's the latest firmware for US devices - just to clarify, is your device retail or Amazon (e.g. under Settings>About Phone, is your device retUS or AMZ under Software Channel)? Might be worth re-flashing the stock firmware:

For retUS devices: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298984458
For AMZ US devices: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634798183

Instructions on how to flash can be found here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/how-to/stock-rom-npjs25-93-14-4-march-1-t3608138

Before you flash:

Are you able to trigger the shutdown if you shake your device from side to side? When you experience the unexpected shutdown, are you able to power your device on straightaway or does it take a few tries? Also, if you have your device connected to power, do you still experience the behaviour? I'm trying to think if this is a hardware issue or a software issue - could be a sensor issue or a battery/battery connection issue (the latter might be bypassed if connected to power). If a sensor/battery issue, they'd be covered under warranty, but as you mentioned, a service repair would be the last resort.

Hi,
Its retail
Unable to consistently reproduce
can always power on right after, no boot loops
i think its HW issue likely with sensors. I think it may occur around the 20-40% battery life mark more often than not.
