Titanium Backup Insufficient Space Error

Well, after months of searching for a solution and reposting my message on this forum, I was finally able to solve my issue by downloading an app from the play store called: SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD by nextapp. This worked like a charm and now I can go back to using Titanium.
The manual modifications suggested on here did not work for me and I bricked my phone twice while trying them. This was a fool proof solution. Thanks to the person who discovered it and posted here.

Here is the link in the play store:

If your problem was that Titanium was unable to write to an external SD card, like mine was (It will say "Folder is not writable"), then try the steps below:

1. Using a root-enabled file manager like root explorer, navigate to /system/etc/permissions
2. Edit platform.xml file and find the WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE permission.
3. Add this group definition: <group gid="media_rw" />
4. Save changes.
5. Restart.

Press "Thanks" :D:D:D
This worked perfectly for me on my TMO Note 3, it stopped working when I loaded Effortless rom 8.0. Now it works flawlessly.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but I have another question.

Has anyone lost the option to move apps to the SD card? Under Batch Actions > Move / Integrate, the only option I have is 'Integrate updates of system apps into ROM'. TiBu has no problems writing to my SD card (that's where my backups are), but for some reason I can't move apps to the SD card. Anyone else have this issue?

I'm running rooted but stock NC5 and have TiBu Pro.

Thanks,

Eric

Follow these steps to fix...

1.) Open Preferences and choose backup folder location

2.) Select Detect and choose whole device

3.) Choose the option /storage/emulated/legacy

4.) Select Use the current folder

5.) Benefit ;)
This didn't work for me either, I tried to make a backup, but kept on getting the insufficient space message, so I deleted the TB folder from /storage/emulated/0 then when i go into TB settings>Backup folder location i get a message that says Current backup location (/storage/emulated/0/Titanium Backup) Cannot be accessed, if i select detect, no matter which i try SD card or Device i get "no backup location was fond" If I make a folder in said location and the navigate to it, it says This folder is not writable, and the permissions cannot be changed either....

Device: Galaxy S5 ROM: Alliance v5.3 4.4.2

I just ran into this. Try this app. Once you run the app reboot your phone.
And try again.

You are a genius bro.
I noticed my location said it wasn't writable before I found this thread.
I knew I didn't want to change my location since I had existing backups in my current location from previous phones and just needed to change permissions.
I rebooted, tried one backup of a single app (successfully) and had to come say Thanks!
Gotta go... Need to get my backups rolling since I have zero on my new phone

Ok. Did you have titanium installed on a device prior to your s5? And did you back up to your sdcard?
After using nextapp.sdfix, reboot, uninstalled TiBU, reboot, reinstall TiBU - extSdCard now shows writable.

UPDATE: wrote new folder to extSdCard, attempted backup and got error that there was not enough room. It does now appear to be working okay after successfully renaming new folder with Astro file mgr, then reopening TiBU . . .

Insufficient Free Storage Space

Finally!! Thank you, worked for me too!
In TB, when I get to /storage/emulated/legacy

the "Use the current folder" button is greyed out. Whats up wit dat?

What is odd is that TB had been working, writing to my 64GB ext SD card, then all of a sudden I started getting that error message of "insufficient storage"
For the uninitiated, can someone splains me what emulated/legacy means. I know the internal storage [Note3 and presumably other Android devices] SD card is storage on the device as opposed to storage/extSD which is the actual SD card.
Somewhat confusing.

thanks

That did nothing for me, i.e. Disabling Dropbox sync

Hi,
I have a Sprint Note 3 running 4.4.4 and I'm getting "does not work on this device". Device is rooted and what is strange is that TB was working at one point then just started throwing up the "insufficient storage" error message one day.

Problem solved

In Kitkat third party apps are not allowed to write/delete on external SD card, but your solution removed that restriction and solved many problems. Thank you very much.
