Great tool! Just ran across this - but I suffer from the same thing this guy does.

Works FINE if I open the tool first - then drag a file to it.

But it won't "associate" and "open" when double clicking.

Thoughts?

hi,ido when i double click apk files i get this error..running win7 x64

Excellent App. Works great on organizing my mess of apks.
I've run into a problem though. Some apks error on rename because their names contain character that aren't allowed in filenames: /\?%*:|" <>
They need to be omitted or replaces. Don't forget about double and trailing spaces too.

ex: ST: Red Alert live wallpaper won't rename because of the :
WiFi Tether 3.1-beta11 *** BETA-VERSION *** won't rename because of the *

Edit: Noticed an issues with special character handling too: Soundhound ∞ -> SoundHound ∞_2.9.7

Simple and effective

This is a great little app for dealing with large collection of apk's. Whenever I'm rolling a new release together and checking for updated version of the included apps this makes that job so much easier.

For nonstandard characters would it be possible to use a _ in place to allow a 'best as' renaming.

I installed android_spk-r18 ... aapt.exe is nowhere to be found.
am I missing something?
you can find aapt.exe in <android sdk folder>/platform-tools.

and btw, drag and drop apk to apkspy is working. but when is use double-click,error. i think it related to .apk file location, maybe too long or complicated, cant have spaces or etc...

Thanks guys.

I might opensource in the near future, code is kinda messy atm (it was originally written in a day).

in any case, the unicode/special chars might be because aapt doesn't handle them. I need to check though.

I released a new ver with minor bug fixes.

Hey mate,

This is one of the most useful tools I now use on my PC. So thank you very much!

I am not sure what other users do with utilising this tool to its best capacity, but what I do is I have .apk files associated with the latest Winzip. I know a lot of people may groan when I say WinZip as it is not free and its there are plenty of other packages around that have superior compression methods etc, but i just want to set things straight here and mention that WinZip is the only archive/ compression application that allows for viewing res directories and displaying the PNG files inside without the user ever needing to decompile the apk.

This is especially handy for themeing. However if I associate your ApkSPY as the default application or visa versa; I have to go to open with and choose an application. It also restricts me when I double click to either only opening with Winzip Or ApkSpy.

I wanted both, so I have attached a copy of your latest version along with a Reg key for Window 7 that allows the users to maintain the default application for opening apks (I think in most cases this will be their archiver of choice or DroidExplorer), but their Windows 7 shell context menu has an option to "Open with ApkSPY". I also wanted to give the app an icon so I updated the .exe so it now has a little Spy dude as the icon. That's incase someone does want to make it their default application and they don't want to see the boring old "non-application default windows icon"
The standalone Icon is included in the attached zip as well. Feel free to add it to the main OP if you like?

Um if you for what ever reason want me to remove this post please send me a PM. I am not wanting to hijack the thread in anyway, just add what I found handy.

Hope this helps someone out.

James

Great app, but renaming should be diffrent i guess :D it should be: [InstallationAppName] v[AppVersion], example: ApkSpy v0.6.
