LOL, i had volume up pushed instead of volume down.doh!!, anyway i flashed Maddogs' .526 ftf so now i can go ahead and install CWM. Yippeee!
The dual recovery has both CWM and TWRP. TWRP is very nice on the large screen ultra

And don't forget to root, just flash the chainfire SU from recovery, none of this messing with Vroot rubbish :)

Help. upon installing flashtool it isn't coming up in english it's in some other language comes up as some symbols did i install this thing wrong?

== How to use Flashtool? ==

== Some basics before starting ==
- Entering Flashmode:
* connect your powered off device while holding volume down to pc
- Entering Fastboot (bootloader) mode:
* connect your powered off device while holding volume up to pc

== Install an FTF file ==
FTF files are the regular Sony firmware files, installing them is quite easy and powerfull to recover a soft bricked/semi-bricked device.

- You need to put your ftf file in C:/Flashtool/firmwares before flashing it
- You can start by clicking on the "Flash" icon, it's the left icon in the icon bar
- You'll get a prompt asking you to go to "Flashmode" or "Fastboot mode", choose Flashmode
- The following screen should look like this:

- Click the Flash button to flash the FTF :)
- Wait for the prompt and connect your device in Flashmode

== Use Fastboot toolkit ==
- You can start by clicking on the "Flash" icon, it's the left icon in the icon bar
- You'll get a prompt asking you to go to "Flashmode" or "Fastboot mode", choose "Fastboot" this time
- You'll get the following screen:

The options you'll use most would be:

== Backup TA partition ==
Root Required!!
Backing up your TA partition will give you a backup of your locked device with DRM keys for Bravia/X-Reality Engine

- To be able to backup your TA partition you need to switch to the "pro mode" in FlashTool
- Open file menu and click "switch pro"

- After this you should have a new menu option available called "advanced"
- To backup your TA click "Advanced => Trim Area => Raw Devices => Backup:

- Connect your device in Flash mode to backup TA
- Select your device by double clicking on it in the list:

- Wait until Flashtool is finished
my flash tool looks nothing like those images and clearly not in english.

You should probably read the first line of instructions from that wall of text you just quoted...

What happened to the "Restore Bricked Device" section?? I really need that right now :(

My phone randomly crashed/restarted during a custom rom install via CMW. Now it hangs at the opening "SONY" screen. Won't go away, no LED icons, can't reboot or boot into recovery, can only perform a hard reset with a pen, which results in only the SONY screen again. PC won't recognize it.

I assumed that the "part 2" of your guide, flashing a stock ftf, would do the trick. However, after following all the instruction, the firmware is in the right folder, flashtool has the proper drivers and it shows C680X, and I click the flash icon, choose flashmode, select the firmware, click flash, wait for flashtool to tell me to plug in my phone in flashmode, which I do... and then nothing happens. The screen still says "Wait for flashmode" even though windows notified me of a usb device being plugged in. After a couple minutes (of just waiting) windows reports the usb device has been removed (though nothing happened in flashtool, it still says waiting). Tried this in both flashtool.exe and flashtool64.exe (because backing up my TA I was only able to do via the 32bit version). Still nothing.

What can I do to fix this? Did I do something wrong or is part 2 just not finished yet? ...

You will find in c:// flashtool/drivers/ driver.exe
Install it.

Hi,
I'm new to the sony environment, and just got a Z1 which is randomly rebooting.
I wanna flash .534 FTF, will it void my warranty? And do I need to have root, and do the TA, or can I just skip it and flash the FTF and it'll be as if I just took it out of the box?
Sorry for the noob questions

Mate you might need the Z1 forum for that, wish there was a 534 for the ZU.

Hello guys, I need some help here.
This is my first Sony device, so please be patient :)

Here is what I have:

TA Backup
All drivers and flashtool installed (latest version)
A C6802 running AOSPA

Here's what I want to do :
Go back to stock, locked bootloader.

The problem is, I've no idea how to do that !
Flashtool doesn't recognize my device when I connect it and it doesn't even list the ftf I've put in the firmware folder :(
I think the file is corrupted. Does anybody have a mirror for .532 for C6802 ? ( I've already tried the repository, but the google docs link just keeps stopping the download every 5 minutes !)

Plus, should I restore TA before or after ?

What if I want to keep the unlocked bootloader ?

Any help would be appreciated :)

Do Backup is grey, cant press it.

and i have root:

Had the same problem, so i used "TA Backup" instead.

- Download TA Backup and extract it
- Connect your ZU to your computer
- Run "Backup-TA.bat
- Choose "Backup" (1)
- It'll ask for root on your ZU, so press "Grant".
- Wait for about 5 seconds
- Done

Your TA backup will be in the "Backup" folder. Store it some place safe, like Dropbox, Drive etc.
