Can I use this with Mac (OS X)? Also my phone is updated with latest patch (Verizon) will this root my phone?

This is a windows only program. I am working on a update that will include root using jcase's newest method. It will not be a one click method, it will be similar to following the original instructions.

Hi, quick question

Does your "flash back to stock" erase data? as in, will it will my sms, app data, etc?

If so, do you know of a way to unroot without erasing this?
Flash back to stock does erase data (sms, app data). It will return your phone to the state that it was in when you first removed it from the box. To just unroot you can fastboot flash the recovery.img and system.img from the FXZ .zip file.

I just saw the new update and gave it a try for rooting my at&t moto x and it worked just fine. Thanks for all the effort you put into making this just a little simpler for us.

This is the longest I have ever owned an android device before seeking root, says a lot to me about the moto x and its innovative nature.

How does this flash back to stock? Do you give it a directory of where your ROM files are?
You can either download the firmware .zip and place it in the ReturnToStock\Carrier folder then run the toolkit to install, or the toolkit can download and then install it.

Just for some clarity

Just so I'm clear: am I able to use this toolkit to root my stock + OTA Moto X, and do NOTHING else? Or do i need to still download files, place them in proper directories, or just generally do additional procedures? In my past experiences, root methods dont generally "erase" any important user data. Could be wrong though.

Rooting is all I want to do; dont want to flash a ROM, dont want my current data erased(until I can backup using Titanium, or Nandroid which require the root anyway :p), etc. I don't mind unlocking, so long as it requires little effort on my part. I just need root.

Sidenote: when the Moto X gets its next version of Android, what are the rooted folks to do, beside NOT downloading and installing anything? lol

If you are just looking to root, you could use the toolkit to do so. It will take you through the steps of getting root. If you don't already have the files needed for root, the toolkit will download them and then take you through the process. Root will not erase any user data. The only option in the toolkit to erase user data is if you are flashing back to stock firmware.

To answer the side note, when the next version of Android is released for our phones, we will hopefully at some point get root for it. But as always, there is no guarantee that a root method will exist. At which point you can stay on the firmware that has root, or you can upgrade and hope an exploit is available at some point.

How can I use this to unroot the phone, but not delete everything? I simply want to remove root and get the stock recovery back (so that I can take OTA's again). I've downloaded FXZ and am in the process of downloading the VZW OTA update file for the Moto X. What files do I need in order to extract from the zip file and what do I do with them? Thanks!

To just unroot you can fastboot flash the recovery.img and system.img from the FXZ .zip file. You can place them in the root of the Moto X Toolkit folder, connect your device, then use Option 21 to reboot to bootloader (hboot - #3) once it is in bootloader use option 22 to refresh the toolkit and you will see your device listed under fastboot mode, then use Option 20 to open command prompt.

Flash recovery

Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Flash system

Code:
mfastboot flash system system.img
You can then close the command prompt and use Option 21 to reboot (#4).

I am trying to return to stock and letting the toolkit do its thing. Is it normal to take a long time for "writing 'system'" to finish? I have been waiting for about 10 minutes.

EDIT: took too long and I tried again...Worked the second time. GREAT TOOLKIT!

Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, but no it shouldn't take that long to flash system, though the system flash is the longest of the process.

I only see one Rogers file on the FXZ site. Not sure if that is the OG or the OTA 4.2.2 I would check what your system version and build number are, and if they match the file name.

Feel free to flame me for this because I'm not too certain if this has been covered before but I get this error, "Toolbar\Datamngr\x64\apcrtldr.dll is valid, but is for a machine type other than the current machine. OK to continue, or CANCEL to fail the DLL load." Am I just having a noob moment or did I really screw something up?
