I have just acquired a moto X XT1058 for ATT and it is locked bootloader and it is on 4.4.4 I read that on the Verizon version of the phone you are screwed if you are on 4.4.4 but is it possible for me to unlock my bootloader and root since this in an ATT phone? I do not see an option in the moto x toolkit to root 4.4.4

Any advice is greatly appreciated thanks!
Sorry. Verizon, AT&T and Republic Wireless are all in the same boat if they are on 4.4.4. You can't unlock the bootloader, and your can't root.

No... The att variant is pretty much in the same boat as the vzw variant...

Thanks for the responses that is a bummer for me. Once this phone gets updated by att to lollipop I wonder if it will then have a vulnerability again that will allow unlocking bootloader and rooting. What is the possibility of this?

Ok so I really like the size and feel of this phone. I think that all the new 5+ inch screen phones are overkill as they are too big to fit in pocket comfortably and if I am hardcore using the internet I do it on my desktop not my phone so I want my phone to be pocketable and easy to use with one hand. Since it appears that there is no way possible to unlock bootloader and root my xt1058 I found what appears to be a fair deal on ebay for a brand new developer edition 32 gig xt1060. I figure I can sell the xt1058 and make at least most of the money back on the cost of the new xt1060. My question is this. Will the xt1060 work on Tmobile? so far the xt1058 has worked great on tmobile even though it is an att phone. wondering if the xt1060 will be able to pick up all tmobile data 3g, hspa+, lte and what not. I live in a refarmed area or whatever so while hspa+ supposedly does not work for tmobile if using a xt1058 it works just fine for me as well as lte.

Below is the link to the ebay ad. Let me know what you guys think.

It would be better if u can find an xt1053 because it supports LTE bands 2/4/17. The xt1060 only supports LTE bands 4/13.

sorry for the delay I was away - here is the XML file in the zip you advised me to use:

I've attached both XMLs in a zip - not sure which one you needed.

Yeah you seem to have used the same commands as in the xml file except erasing customize and clogo... Not sure why ur radio would stop working when u flash the 5.0 modem files...

OK thanks very much for the info. So if I were to purchase one of these (see ebay link) Then would I be able to unlock the bootloader even if it is on 4.4.4?? If so I assume it would have to be done by getting bootloader unlock code directly from motorola? But with this I should be able to unlock bootloader root permanently and everything correct?

That's right...

Damn you! You had to show me that link, didn't you. Just kidding. I just bought a regular xt1058 for $10 less. If I had seen the one you bought, I would have gotten it. Oh well, I guess I could return it, but I'm not going through the hassle. I guess I'll have to live with my crappy xt1058. ;) That's OK, I was considering staying with stock anyway since I'm not much of a power user to begin with. Basically all I do is talk, text, ebay app, and stream music and podcasts.

$199 is a decent price for the dev version though. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but all I found was a 32gb dev version for $230. Oh well, have fun.

Thanks stillthisguy for the awesome tool.

I was looking for a way to revert to Stock using the options under "9. Flash Back To Stock", but I only find following options under it:
1. Verizon
2. ATT
3. Sprint
4. T-Mobile
5. US Cellular
6. Rogers

How to flash stock ROM on an unlocked bootloader device? I have XT1052 device which is carrier independent. Any help would be appreciated.

    FAQ's

Where is the toolkit after install?

Depends on the version of Windows you have installed, You can just make a shortcut on your desktop:
    x32 - C:\Program Files\stillthisguy\Moto X Toolkit
    x64 - C:\Program Files (x86)\stillthisguy\Moto X Toolkit

Where do I copy the files for Bootanimation or CLogo?

    x32 - C:\Program Files\stillthisguy\Moto X Toolkit\Bootanimation
    x64 - C:\Program Files (x86)\stillthisguy\Moto X Toolkit\Bootanimation

    x32 - C:\Program Files\stillthisguy\Moto X Toolkit\CLogo
    x64 - C:\Program Files (x86)\stillthisguy\Moto X Toolkit\CLogo

Toolkit won't open on Windows 7/8

Right click the icon>Properties>Compatibility>Check mark Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 3) and Check mark Run this program as an administrator.

Earpiece LED doesn't work after reboot

This will be fixed in the next update. Just enable it through the toolkit again after reboot.

ADB needs root for this toolkit to make changes for you, if you open the toolkit, you can check ADB root under Option 15. If ADB does not have root, you will need to install an app called adbd Insecure - Google it.
    6
This won't be very useful until the actual rooting is included as an option in the toolkit. As soon as that functionality comes I'll be on board!

That is your opinion and you are entitled to have it. But my opinion and others would probably disagree. The root method for a carrier locked moto x is just an app install and then you open the app, not really needed to be added to the the toolkit. You could certainly use the toolkit to install the app and then go open the app on your phone. If you have a moto x that is able to be bootloader unlocked, you could use my tool to install a custom recovery and then install root through the recovery. So, as you can see, we have a difference of opinion when it comes to how useful this toolkit is. There are also things that can be done with the toolkit that do not require root at all.
    4
If you don't have the right drivers, the program isn't going to work. But I think I figured out what you are really saying, that you tried to use the toolkit to install the drivers, and it didn't work. I have a new version uploading now with the fix, and will update the 2nd post as soon as it has completed.

Link to 1.3.1 is up in the 2nd post!
