What part of the TWRP GUI was hanging (freezing on you)?

Sorry for the delay. It would hang at different points just after any zip install process began, but usually not long into it. The spinner bar would freeze and that would be that. When I switched recoveries, the flash was so fast I think it got past whatever block was there with larger files. The phone is now functioning like a champ. Also, since this incident, I have worked successfully with the latest TWRP. I think it was the Gummy Nightly to be honest, or some interaction between that file and TWRP. It appears to be resolved.

Anyone else able to make a backup using v2.8.0.0?

Doesn't work for me.

When I try, I get the below error message:

E: Unable to create folder: /external_sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/{string of id chars here}/{folder name here} (errno=13)
E: Failed to make backup folder.

Works fine for me here. I had some issues with stock ROM, but I wiped everything including internal storage, and reinstall 2.8, and have no issue since then.

Can you post the entire recovery.log?

No issue making a backup here. The ROM I'm using is the 9/11 build of aokp.

I think I know what your issue is now. Can you check to see if /init.recovery.smd4x12.rc exists in TWRP?

so am i able to flash this with odin to get root and custom recovery,and then install a 4.4 rom from recovery after this? my phone is completly stock at this point.

in the file browser under 2.8.0.0 version.

I'm using 2.8.0.0 with Slimkat AOSP 4.4.4. and I still can't backup on a 128GB Sandisk extSdCard. Diskinfo reports filesystem as fuseblk. Should I just reformat the card to exFat?
