I'm having a really hard time installing this...where can I find instructions for smp-900?

I'm having hard time installing too.

I'm trying to install by using Odin but whenever I download -..tar file, it extracts to recovery.img
Odin can't recognize -img file.

Can I just change file to .tar extention or Should I need to wait til someone upload .tar file?

For all you having trouble, if you're rooted, try using Recovery Tools (free in Play Store) - it worked for me, flashed without PC, backed up existing recovery first.

Edited.

Recovery Tools requires root, so kind of defeats the purpose if you're just starting out from a full stock device, same situation with mobile odin. The 3 methods listed in the op seem to be the only way to go.

I assumed you're already rooted, if you're installing custom recovery, esp. since root was available much earlier than TWRP for SM-900. I guess you could have TRWP without root. In that case, you're right: Recovery Tools will be pretty useless.

Make sure you save as and not open the file with the browser. Once TWRP is installed, download SuperSu zip from chainfire and flash it in TWRP.

Stuck on this screen (blurry, in case you can't read it: Recovery booting.... Recovery is not seandroid enforcing. Set warranty bit: recovery)

Flash stock recovery in odin. I need to figure out why mine isn't booting. Are you familiar with debugging?

Not yet, but if you can recommend me a howto I will be glad to learn. :)
First download the stock firmware from sammobile and flash it to get back to a stock build. Then find a guide on how to install adb. Let me know when you are ready.

Thank you for your response.

I finally figured it out what I was doing wrong.
I was thinking ahead of myself.

You see, whenever I download .tar file (so I can use Odin to flash), Downloaded file has an .img extension. .tar was not showing.
Since it's .img I automatically thought it was compressed file so I try to uncompress and it still says .img when I extracted.
I wasn't supposed to extract the file.

Anyway. I flashed it fine and now I have TWRP on my SNP.

Thanks again.

Stock recovery working, adb tools ready. What's next? :victory:
OK, keep cf autoroot to flash back to stock when you flash TWRP again.

Install ADB
Flash TWRP in Odin.
Try to boot TWRP: home + vol up + power
Let it fail
Boot into Download: home + vol up + power
Flash cf autoroot
boot into android
adb shell
cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg.txt

Upload last_kmsg.txt as an attachment
