Old database files

Hello,
First of all, Thank You developers for such an useful tool. Could prove very useful to many.

I've a question to which I already know the answer but still trying my luck.
I've several old databases ranging from crypt8 to crypt12 (I take backup, store database file on PC and clear entire WA once a year) but WITHOUT KEY ? Any remotest possibility to even just view them?

Hello there!

Is there a way with this app to view individual conversations/groups within all their images and video sent?

I have my full WhatchApp folder backup on my computer, so all media in there as well.

What I need to do is to have an idea of the media content of each chat/group so to identify them and delete media that I'm not interested with.

I have 13 Gb of images and videos in total, and from WhatsApp I see that the media from the 3 or 4 chats/groups I would like to keep media are about 5 Gb, so all the other stuff is rather old from old versions of WhatApp and no more able to be deleted using the built-in WhatApp storage cleaner, or from chats/groups from which I don't care keeping them.

I would like to identify all related linked media in my chats and delete what does not belong to them. Is it possible?

I have a number of whats app backups from 2013, and i am trying to read them due to a death in the family.

They are old files, so they are only .db.crypt.

I can decrypt the files fine with your software, and i end up with all my .crpyt files as .db files. I know the data is in the files as if i open them with note pad, i can see all the messages, although a little hard to read this way.

I then try to use your tool to export my .db files as a nice readable HTML, but this will only work on my small 500KB .db file. My other .db files which have far more messages and are around 8,000KB, the export process times out during the upload process and i end up with ''

Gateway Timeout
The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application.

Additionally, a 504 Gateway Timeout error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.''

Is there anyway to avoid this? Is there a file size issue? I don't mind doing this process offline, but the only app i can find in your downloads is android apk, and this doesnt have the option to export the chats.

I am not sure what exactly you are doing. The timeout looks like you are using a web server. You have to run the Python script locally. I had never problems with very big files. So on a console like this:
python whatsapp_xtract.py -w wa.db msgstore.db

for best results, copy the entire whatsapp folder unchanged onto the hard drive. place the DB files and the extract file inside the main folder. In this way the photos and voice messages are found and linked in the HTML output.

Maybe this is a different tool all together, but when it works it is good.

I am not familiar with python scripts, are you able to talk me through it?

As i say, i already have my .db.crypt files decrypted to .db files, i just need to export them to a suitable format to read them

i would never send my chats to an online service. using python on a linux machine such as ubuntu would be relatively easy. I have no experience with windows. try point 4 in first posting.

If not, or for those who need to get the unencrypted files off their device for viewing, you can do that if you have root using adb. The following files are useful to extract and backup:

WhatsApp profile:

Hi dadnammit, thanks for your reply.

Yes, i have all my files decrypted already, but the whatsapp viewer tool doesn't want to show them. I get an error

'‘could not load the chat list; SQLite error1; no such column: chat_list.subject’'

I have emailed andreas to see why this error is coming up. I know the data is there and the .db files can be exported, as when the whatcrypt tool works and doesn't time out, it works fine and i can get a full html whats app chat from these .db files.

I am in a situation where the source msgstore.db ( nick : m_db ) contains overlapping info wrt target m_db and there is a good 2+ yr difference between src and target. Running the update gives me unique key violation message . How to handle a merge given this situation.

Hey there, i have root on my phone and did all the steps mentioned in the thread. But when i run whatsapp_xtract_android.bat a command prompt opens and tells me to press a key and then closes without doing anything. When i open the db with whatsapp-viewer from andreas mausch, i can view all messages but then again, when i want to export to html it gives me a error: "could not open chat export file".

Any solution for this?

if it's an old unencrypted backup then you just need a reader.. this one should work.

Anyone knows what happended

The database in the Whatsapp backup no longer contains the chat_list table. (at least the backup produced by version 2.21.15.20 I have installed doesn't). This tool clearly expects/needs that table to be present and errors out because it's not there.

I used the console but I got the following error.

Apparently, the encrytion by default is not the same as the older versions.

Could anyone tell me the right encryption and the way to set it in the extraction tool, please?
