Download the image from motodev and unzip the contents directly into the main xoot folder.

Let me know if that works.
Also I just wrote this post about unlocking the bootloader and converting a xoom into a Google experience device using xoot so I don't know if this will be of any good to you? I haven't tried rooting with xoot yet so that's not in my guide below.

Unzip Xoot to the main directory of your PC (usually C drive)

I also downloaded and installed the xoom USB drivers from the Moto dev website. I am not 100% sure if these are needed but on my first try my computer had trouble picking up my xoom, but after I installed these it seemed to work (please note I restarted my PC after the install). I downloaded the ones for Windows 7 64bit but just download what ever one is relevant for your computer.

The US stock rom image came from the Moto Dev website but you will have to register before you can download anything. Its a simple registration and wont take you long.
On the Moto Dev page you need go about half way down the page and look for the section MZ604 - XOOM WITH WIFI. At the bottom of that section you will see Build HWI69 for US Retail, which is what you need to download.
Once you have downloaded this extract the contents straight into the main Xoot folder on your PC and overwrite any files that may already be there.

Now connect your xoom with USB, make sure USB debugging is selected on your xoom (this should happen automatically but check in settings just in case)

Open up the Xoot folder and click on the Xoot batch file icon (looks like little gears)
A black command box will open up, press S to go into the bootloader settings and type unlock and hit return.

Follow the commands on the command box and then the same on your xoom and it will unlock the bootloader.

Once that has completed close Xoot on your PC and restart your Xoom (you may have to go through the set up screens on your xoom to get back to the home screen) again make sure USB debugging is selected on your xoom

Again open Xoot batch file icon but this time press D which will take you to the Other Tweaks menu.

Press S and you will be given another set of menus

now type ged and hit return and again follow any instructions on screen or on your xoom(this converts your xoom into a google experience device and uses the US image downloaded from moto dev)

After that has finished your Xoom will start up and after going through the first time set up screens you will have Android 3.0 US. You should then get instant notifications that updates are available (I think I had 3 or 4 in total) install them and eventually you will have ICS!!

excellent explanation burt_ie. My European Xoom Wifi is running on ICS 4.0.3 now. No problems at all, ICS is lightning fast and a huge step forwards.

No problem at all, it was a learning curve for me so I know how complex it can seem for first timers. Just happy to pass some on to others :)

fastboot oem unlock
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot

Regarding the green bot of !, I have a Euro Xoom which I have previously applied an OTA update. Can I just use the GED feature of Xoot to flash the GED (US) files, then flash CWM and a custom ROM from there?

If I boot into the GED firmware after flashing CWM, does this remove the custom recovery and replace with stock again?

Thanks.

Huge Thanks to epic118 for the XOOT 1.1 software. Works like a charm :D

Huge Thanks to burt_ie your instructions are spot on :D

Irish Xoom MZ604 WiFi Ireland - Now on ICS. Running like a dream.

This is the simplest way to Root your Xoom, & get ICS. No fuss, no mess !!!

Just one query. Will the device will now get all GED US updates from now ?

Hmm OK I am a little stuck.

I unlocked the bootloader and flashed the US image from the moto dev website and updated to ICS but now I am trying to root.

When I try and flash CWM through XOOT and go through the steps I get to the little android lying down with his chest open and an exclamation mark.

I got the first part right but I cant seem to fathom this second process. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to copy anything to my SD card?

Okay! I've come a bit further now.

I've been trying to run Xoot on a Win XP machine. (Usually a Mac-user you see), and when i start Xoot, it just skips right past the first menu with the choice to choose other tweaks.

It takes me right to the part where you choose Bootloader-settings. I'll try and see if I get the same problems on Win 7. :)
I'm getting the same on xp even though I renamed the choice.exe file. Has anybody got this successfully working on xp?

XOOT is tested only on the MZ604 WiFi only edition. GED flashing probably won't work, but rooting'll will probably work (it's based on solarz's Universal Root)

I made a tool that does what Xoot does and more! Check LordAIOTool on my signature! Just a point, I created it based on Xoot, because I liked it, so I decided create something bigger, I think it worth the try :D

I had the same prob, with a different tool. I had to manually put the update.zip with the (CWM) image on it to my sdcard . That was my issue, no sure what happened with yours. Hope it works out.

Big Problem!

hey guys.

i have a big problem.
my motorola didnt work anymore after i did some steps of this.

i just wanted to unlock bootloader and make my xoom (MZ604) to a ged (us) device.

i did everything like burt_ie said in his post at page 7.
first i unlocked it and everything worked fine,
then i tried to use the us files...that worked fine too i pressed D and then S and typed ged and pressed return.
after that the xoom has loaded something on the screen and after some minutes it shut down and started....but here is the problem....

since then it stucks at the start screen....this red M with the DUAL CORE slogan.
the xoot said Waiting for Xoom and since there nothing happened.

I have waited for over 1 hour an nothing happend anymore.
So i tried to restart the xoom with pressing ON/OFF and lauder, it has rebooted but stucks at the same place again.

PLS HELP MEE i hope i havent killed my xoom. :((

Edit:
Okay i think the big problem is that my computer (Win7 64bit) cant find the Xoom when i connect it with the usb cable.
I have already installed the usb drivers from Motodev before i started with Xoot. So why doesnt my computer find my Xoom?
I ve tried different usb slots and also i did a newstart after the driver installation....

Maybe that could help you to help me....

Edit2:
After a second reboot with Power ON/OFF an Vol Up i get this notice:
Starting RSD protocol support 3
OneWire: Charger is not connected or battery is not being charged
Battery charge level: 65%

I dont know what this means...the usb cable is connected to the Xoom and the PC.

Pls help. :(

You haven't killed your XOOM.
Don't worry, I'll help you through it.

Most probably, your GED files were corrupt. Redownload them and try this:

1. Reboot your XOOM.
2. Don't press VOL+ straight away! Wait two seconds, then press it.
3. Flash GED. If XOOT is "Waiting for XOOM", just press CTRL+C, then N, then Enter.

Hope this helps!

P.S. Use Cornea, not XOOT! Cornea is much newer than XOOT, and sports the same features plus more.

Hmm...

Okay i did like you said...i loaded the US GED Files again and also the European.

First i tried it and yes Xoot found the Xoom and it startet with sending boot and then sending system (its about 260000 KB is this right?) after a while it goes on fast and on my Xoom comes the error 000001 and im back on the M screen DUAL CORE.

So i tought may it would work with the European Files and yes it did without an error but i'm on the same Screen again with the red M. :(

Pls can you write a step by step instruction or would it work with Cornea too and if yes how?
