Hey, thought I recognized your username. Forgot to check back on that thread. Wasn't sure if you had managed to save the file.
I can't figure out how to install this via adb. I've tried sideloading it through bootloader and recovery but it's not detecting my Shield.
Anyway, for anyone else who wants it, here's Update 98.

Once I get back to my computer, I'll root and repackage this so you don't need to reinvent the wheel over it.
Upload says it'll take about 2 hours, but then it will be available at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51927935#post51927935 with the instructions on how to get the right recovery, maintain root, etc.

Hypothetical question

If a person had the shield and the note and is getting the new shield tablet, which one would you sell after getting the tab? The note or the shield? My vote was the note since the tablet more closely, completely duplicates the note where as the shield is still somewhat unique.

As someone that has both the Shield Portable and Shield Tablet I would say both have their strong points, I prefer the Portable when laying in bed and playing games and like the tablet to watch youtube at the table or play video games at a desk, the portable is better when on a long car ride or plane ride.
Each have their own strengths. I have no intentions of getting rid of either one.

So your vote would be to bounce the note, keep the shield handheld and the shield tablet?

I would definitely do this. There are loads of times where the portable is the only device that can do the job, but the shield tablet is so similar to the note it would make it pretty obsolete imo.

In the past I've seen that the shield / nvidia admins can do something on their end for this. Send a PM to one of the shield employees at https://forums.geforce.com/default/board/136/

Furthermore, you can find the most recent recovery / system image (101 at this time) from their site and flash it to get up to date.

In case anybody doesn't know this, you can use this program to install whatever update you want, by simply replacing the JB OTA update files (in the same folder as the Shield Ram v1.1 .exe) with the files of the update you want. I've done it many times. If you want to simply just flash a new recovery, as long as it's NSP compatible, just rename the recovery you wanna flash to cwmrecovery.img. That's all I've tested so far. I'm not sure if the renaming trick will work for every command that this program executes. I plan on testing it out more though.

Thanks again @hexitnow, for this awesome program. :good:

hey, thanks for your great work. I am having some difficulties with this, however. My shield just arrived in the mail yesterday, so after setting up the ADB and fast boot drivers, I use this to try and install CWM. CWM, however gave me an error with an image of a little dead Android, and the Superuser app did not appear after using it. so then, I thought perhaps I need to take the update, and then this will work. after updating, I use the utility again, and cwm still shows no command error. I'd like to root before it ceases to be an option. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Be careful, becase if you flash a recovery that is not compatible with the installed version of your shield you wont be able to enter recovery anymore, so if you just want to root your shield there is another method that i called the 4 penguins method so if you wanna try this send me a pm and i will send you the link of how to do it without cwm

you could just post it here, so it's accessible to others who experience this problem

Why ever not? The author has at least one post about it on the forum already (cite: here). At least, that's the only thing that comes to mind when you mention four penguins (the default Linux boot image, btw). But yes, this is the least invasive root if you don't want a custom recovery. I use it even with a custom recovery.

Thank you!

I had a portable I purchased from eBay that I couldn't get to log in using Google and having to retype in my email and password for Nvidia log in over and over was murder. Your tool helped me reflash to stock. For some reason, I couldn't download updates. I copied over the 106 files and reflashed and it worked awesome!

BTW, anyone else who is unable to log in using Google... my theory is that when you first set up the device in stock, it is not really clear about the restore backup option. I think when you do that, it doesn't register it as a new device. The setup for 106 was more clear about this option and even made it clear, that you wanted to set it up as a new device.

Again, thank you so much for sharing your wonderful work.

What do I do once I get to the screen that shows "contine, restart bootloader, receovery mode, reboot poweroff"?
I'm trying to unlock the bvootloader, and all I see under the shield RAM screen is <waiting for device>
and nothing happens.
