I'm at work right now and plan on making the upgrade from my rooted NP v5.1.1 to rooted v6.0 when I get home from work later on this evening!

Thanks for your hard work! :good:
Root for android 6 will only be achievable via twrp until the source is available so an insecure kernel can be built. For Twrp on the Nexus Player you will need an OTG cable and a mouse.

If you don't have an OTG cable then you can get them off ebay for about a pound. I think I got 3 for £2. They aren't expensive and can be very useful.

I will try to get the Android 6 update done tonight but im not at the pc right now so it may be later tonight or tomorrow.

allinone option remains disabled

not sure if I'm just being a goof or not but even after I have donated and activated, the allinone option remains disabled for the Nexus Player module...driving me nuts, I've gotta be over looking something basic....is there an enable/disable switch? any ideas guys?

TWRP openrecoveryscript is broken in the 2.8 version so it has been disabled as it does not work properly. If it is fixed in future versions then I can reenable it. It worked fine in 2.7 so I don't know what changed. The skiproot image works great with lollipop and when source files are released for marshmallow then I can build a skiproot image for the new versions. Option 4,1,1 also works fine to root devices if you had an OTG cable.

Thanks, that makes sense now. Of course the blasted thing auto updated to marshmellow over night...
so, I guess waiting the updated root now.. ;)
I meant to get it out today but haven't been well all day, sorry.

I will work on it first thing in the morning and should have it out by lunch. Will have to test on my Nexus Player to make sure it all works well. Luckily Marshmallow allows files to be pushed to internal memory without needing an insecure kernel (lollipop wouldn't allow that) so it makes things a bit easier.

Root from stock 6.0 worked like a charm thank you! However...I had difficulties unlocking the device using your tool. It appears it did not send the command twice as needed to unlock.

+1 -- Unlock isn't working. It says it's already unlocked and boots back to Android.

Edit: I was able to unlock it using minimal ADB, so I think it's something wrong with the script.

I have been working on fixing some bugs and improving procedures for the last 4 days (including the bootloader unlock routine). I will upload a new device module within the next 24 hours which can be downloaded by running toolkitclean.exe from the toolkit folder and cleaning the Nexus Player module and then running the toolkit again.

I will post when its ready to download.

I used your toolkit to unlock, root my Nexus Player before the 6.0 was released. I couldn't resist the urge of rooting :) But, now the device serves its purpose; a Family Movie Centre!

When I now check under About, System Updates, there is an update that the system wants to run.
When I have accepted it, the device reboots and then it enters recovery mode (I believe) and the little Android guy gets the update, and then he dies "Update Fail".

I'm guessing the unlocking and rooting makes OTA updates "none compatible"?
- Can i use your tool to completely return to Stock and take the OTA from there?

If you have any other advice regarding getting 6.x to the device without wiping, I'll gladly take it

Oh, btw, thanx for making the ToolKit. Used it on my LG N4 (donor then) and now on the NP

Firstly download the new device module with the updated main main module. It has lots of fixes and improvements. Make sure the Toolkit is closed and run ToolkitClean.exe from the installation folder. Clean the Nexus Player module files and then restart the Toolkit, select your device from the list and new module files will be downloaded. These updates have already been pushed as AutoUpdates but the main module is the same.

The main reason OTA updates dont take is because of custom recovery being present on the device so if you want to take an OTA then reflash the stock image from your current build. Root shouldn't really cause any problems but if I was you I would do the following:

1. Make an adb backup of your apps. If you are still on Android 5 you can do a full backup with apks included (option 2,1,1). If you do this backup then you can restore your device to pretty much the exact state it was, even if you wipe the device. Android 6 has problems including the apks but you can still backup all installed apps and associated data (option 2,1,2). I haven't tested this type of backup thoroughly so im not sure if you have if it restores your apps completely or if its just the user data that is restored.
2. Download the latest google image (from *HERE* if you don't have the pro version with the latest config/firmware files) or via option 9,1 if you are a pro user. You can then flash the firmware image to update to 6.0. If you choose not to format userdata during the flash then your installed apps will not be touched and it will be the same as an OTA update.
3. If you choose to wipe your device during the firmware flash then you can restore your backup. If you have the Pro version you can even root 6.0 if you want to.

Device module update available for all users

I completed the update of the main module file last night after 4 days of coding testing and debugging which improves most of the Toolkit procedures. Unlock, relock, backup apps, flash zip files, rename stock recovery restore files, root, unroot procedures have all been reworked, debugged (as much as I can see) and improved.

AutoUpdates have already been pushed to pro users but everyone can download the new module file easily as follows:
1. Make sure the Toolkit is closed.
2. Run ToolkitClean.exe from the installation folder.
3. Clean the module files and settings by selecting your device from the list.
4. Restart the Toolkit, select your device from the list and new module files will be downloaded.

I can't seem to get the module updated even after clearing the nexus player module from toolkitclean. Everytime it only downloads the 1.1.1 module after clearing the module in toolkitclean and restarting. And I'm doing this with no av. Any help would be appreciated.

I've tried to update it to the the latest module with the instructions given but it won't upgrade past 1.1.1 for me. Is there some sort of fix for this?
