Factory images

A little help for a newbie! I am on 4.3 stock (LTE version Nexus 7) with modified kernel (elementalX) and twrp recovery and I want to upgrade to 4.4.2. I downloaded factory image from Google and I don't want to lose my data. After I want root again and reflash modded kernel. What is the correct procedure?
TIA!

allanon, you won't loose your data if you do a full backup on your PC before installing the stock ROM because this procedure deletes literally everything.
In case some nerds know a procedure w/o backup necessary, they would nevertheless do the backup just for safety reasons :)

Once rooted you have the benefit of being able to use root apps. Personally I use Titanium Backup, copy the backup onto my computer then proceed. Either that or I use the toolkit.

I cannot get this tool to work for the life of me. I used it with my Nexus 7 v1 and it worked perfectly, but my v2 just wont work. Im not sure if its a driver issue or what but ive uninstalled every single google/nexus driver I could find, ran the driver installation wizard, followed all the steps and it still cant find my adb device. Running W8 64bit anybody have any ideas?? Thanks

**Edit**

Got it working. Dont know what I did but after trying again and again it finally went through!

Thank you for this easy to use application WugFresh with it's thorough instructions. I successfully rooted my mom's brand new Nexus 7 running 4.4.2 with minimal effort thanks to you and was able to install the necessary root only apps to keep her ad-free and restore App Ops (damn you Google for removing this feature).

Root kit wont root, it has unlock the bootloader success but will not root... Adb is installed correctly, windows xp and 7 on 32bit editions, has root kit not been updated for 4.4.2? Thanks..

Edit.. Tried turning mtp on and still does not work

It worked fine for me on Windows 7 64bit. I just rooted a brand new Nexus 7 that I updated first to 4.4.2 without any problems. I just followed the directions within the application. I did notice that I needed to re-allow the Nexus 7 to accept the computer as an acceptable usb debugger after the unlock but that's because it resets all the settings.
