To those of you who are facing the issue... Are you people using a screen protector? I am using one, and I don't face issues. Yes, there are occasional 'accidental touches', but nothing looks out of the ordinary.

I am using one. I don't want to remove it as the backside got scratched pretty badly during normal use, and I don't want the same to happen to the front. I swear this phone is becoming worse every single day. Now the default launcher has become jittery, almost as if it's running at 15FPS.

Is there any way to downgrade the software? Just to see if this issue is specific to the latest update?

This is weird, I just factory reset the phone again and it is once more working as expected. No visual stutters, no ghost touch, and the fingerprint sensor is working properly. I will now take my time and see if I can figure out exactly what causes it to malfunction. It has to be a bug, may be caused by some combination of settings that I use.

UPDATE #1: I wanted to test my theory, so I let google restore my apps and setting in bulk and the phone immediately started acting up. Now I have reset it again and doing everything from scratch. So far so good.

UPDATE #2: I have reinstalled all my apps, and done some basic changes to my settings. So far have noticed no issues except a few instances of ghost touch, but it is not as extreme as before.

Try switching off animations and see if the issue is resolved.

The issue is back. All i did was pop the phone in the dual-screen case. This is unusable for me, i am attaching a video to show the issue i am facing. Along with this jitteriness, i am also getting fingerprint issues. The hardware test within the phone says that everything is fine.

Notice in the video how while swiping the phone opens an app instead while the swipe motion is in progress. Also, notice how jittery the animation is.

Okay, so i plugged in my earphones and the issue immediately stopped. Then i remembered that i used to face this same problem years ago when i had a Mi3, but it used to happen only when i was charging the phone at my friend's house, where there was no connection to the ground (earthing problem!). Maybe there is a static building up inside my device which is causing this and plugging in the earphones released it? Also now the phone has started to randomly turn off, without any errors or intimation.

UPDATE: As i finished this post my phone started to act up again. This time plugging in the earphones didn't help. I have had no luck reaching out to LG on this issue, they don't respond to emails or messages on social media, and their contact no's are useless.

Another place i found to fiddle with touch is in settings-accessibility-motor&cog-touch input. Try changing touch input settings.
If this also doesnt work, then best to just take the phone to the service center.

The device has already been handed over to LG, and the experience has been nothing short of an embarrassment on LG's part. They cannot repair the device in Bhopal and asked to me take it to Indore personally, after a bit of escalation they asked me to submit the device to a service center in Bhopal but then quoted a turn around time of 3 months as getting the parts for it will take 1.5 - 2 months at least. Meanwhile, they refused to provide me a reference no for my complaint, and hence I couldn't escalate the issue to their upper management, but I used a made up reference no to do that anyway. Only after this, they agreed to provide a replacement, which itself is not available in stock anywhere and is being back-ordered for me.

Really disappointing LG.
They should give immediate replacement.
Am sure they have kept pieces for warranty purposes.
