Guys,
Is your screen a bit unglued from the bottom left corner ?
I had the same issue, and I changed my screen, still have the issue. But it seems that if I press the bottom left the problem doesnt appear... weird but true...

I assume the problem is in the firmware of the touch screen.
A small OS operating with the kernel touch driver
And I assume you can't downgrade it, unless you allow it in the kernel(defconfig)
I didn't know such things could occur on Android (I'm far from being an expert), well it turns out that I updated to Android 10 and then I came back to Android 9 using newflasher. Well, after one or two months a few days ago I started to have this issue with the screen, sony released its July update but from what I have read the issue is still there.

Having the same issue!
When touching in the bottom half of the screen (for example when typing on the keyboard), it starts to pull down my notification bar.
Also happened yesterday: was typing sth in WhtasApp, and suddenly I got asked, if i really want to start a phone call. The button for this action is on a upper area, of the screen.

I think it started with a update, a while ago. Cant really say wich one.

For me, it works to lock and unlock the screen. The issue is gone for at least 10 minutes. So i think its a software bug. I am hopeing best for the future android 10 update in Q1 2020.
But for me, such software bugs should not occour. And its weak from sony, they dont release a patch to fix it. Probably my last sony phone...
Yeah it will probably be my last sony phone as well, I plan to buy something like the Samsung galaxy s10e or maybe something similar in the future, anyways, the thing is that I updated to Android 10,had the same issue with the touch and then came back to 9, in my case It doesn't occur very often, just once or twice a day. And I just lock and unlock the phone, so consider coming back to Android 9 and maybe you could make the issue to appear less often, I don't know...

I've noticed the same thing. Bottom left part of the screen is unglued (can be better seen in the dark with the screen's backlight on). So far ghosting issue seems to be fixed by pressing on the lower left part of the screen.

After a few experiments with my replacement screen it seems that when the screen is a bit flexing the touch function can go mad. I think it is a hardware problem. I haven't solved it completely yet. I plan to glue my screen to the chassis instead of using the genuine adhesive.

Thanks for reporting this, I really appreciate you and more people here who have been throwing lights on this issue. Please Keep doing it as you keep advancing on your experiments.

I have same problem on my XZ2 (not compact). Can't find anyone else who would have it with this phone. I had it for at least last 8 months. Exactly as everyone describes it. Unlocking the phone, couple of minutes, touch screen lagging pretty bad, locking, unlocking problem solved for a little while. Past few days I tried to delete as many third party apps as possible, thought it might solve the issue. Didn't work. Today I went to developer options for the first time. Found in "background check" glove mode apk still running, even though I never turned it on since I've bought the phone. Toggled the switch for disabling it. Haven't had issues for the past couple of hours. Maybe glove mode is something worth digging in, just wanted to let everyone know, because I myself had this trouble for a longest time and never found a solution.

Update: day later problem still haven't came back. I would like to know if this helps anyone with xz2c.

for me the problem almost entirely disappeared after flashing lineage os stock rom. I don't know if it changes anything in the touchscreen firmware or what. The problem still appears from time to time but definitely not with the same frequency as before which made my phone almost unusable at times.

I didn't have this issue with the first xz2 I had, the second one would randomly crap out, or spaz in the keyboard region. it wasn't the screen not being stuck down.

long story short I went to investigate my broken mic and fked up the screen so I replaced it too and I no longer suffer from the touch screen issues

I have the same problem. I like the device overall but I think there must be some major HW design flow. I bought the device brand new. It worked normally from the beginning but at periods when it was warmer, occasionally it would start doing spontaneous touches. Then I decided to replace the battery and at the same time I bought a new LCD in hope it would get rid of this problem. Surprisingly it is worse since than. The new seal under the LCD is not perfect, so it can be related but it still looks like it does it more when device is warmer. There is a metal plate between PCB and LCD and it there are conductive "cusions" near its edge. Maybe there is not enough conductivity at times? I will try to remove the panel again and extend those conductive plates. But I have a feeling that it won't completely fix it either. There seem to be some bad HW design, maybe some interference/induction somewhere. It is sad that Sony knows about it but refuses to admit the problem or at least let us know how to really fix it. I paid for the phone + I paid for an extra LCD which didn't help. And despite I like the device size, CPU performance and quite ok software update frequency (without changelogs though!), I won't buy Sony device again. Also because the initial threatening that rooting the device would make the camera quality unusable and their stupid DRM Keys partition. I bought this device precisely because it seemed they want and care to support AOSP and be dev friendly but I hate them now, they are just another big corporation who doesn't care about users.

Which screens did you order guys (links)? I need to change mine as well (XZ2c). Besides the ghost touches, I now have it all scratched over after my small kid happened to rub it over the floor. So as I anyway have to swap the screen, I want to try running out of the touch problem as well.

I don't really want to link the site here for fear of repercussions or a horde of people yelling about their bad experiences, but, witrigs

good prices, I did DHL shipping and got both mics and the screen and an extra adhesive sticker. went back together nicer than when I sent my last Xperia into Sony for a messed up USB port (only charging no data so no quickcharge), and they sent it back with a broken mic, proximity sensor, and the screen hardly being stuck down to the point where a drop of sweat rolled down the side of the screen, got inside, and toasted it. I later realized that the screen was 80% floating like they tried to reuse the old adhesive.

I had my screen replaced under the warranty and it fixed the issue. My guess is, if the screen is unglued it causes ghosting touch issues.
