Hi, everyone, and a happy new year!

First of all, thanks (major thanks) to andu86 for this helpful thread. I myself am in the process of informing myself about rooting and Knox etc. My S4 Mini has the same stats as OverDriveKill. For the moment I simply want to change the CSC which requires root at the moment (what's the point of MultiCSC if one cannot change it normally???), so I am not in any hurry to use root for anything else. My question, therefore, is this: Can anyone who used this method tell us if the system status of the phone changed to custom or remained official? If it changed, when did that happen, before or after installing other apps like SuperSU or BusyBox, and furthermore, would such a change influence anything?

thealliens and tobbbie mentioned this post for reverting to official, but it doesn't confirm it being permanent....

as far as i can remember it stays to official.

anyway if you install an official firmware with everything wiped your status will be official.

This status official or custom will not affect you in any way. your knox will still be 0x0

i have installed a curstom kernel and tripped my knox status so i can't verify anymore ...

Hi, andu86, and thanks for the reply. So far I have installed the 'rootable' kernel (XXUCNF7), installed and ran towelroot, and restored my 'old' current kernel (XXUCNK1). So far, no KNOX alert, and the status remains official. I have the CSCselect installed on the phone, installed it before the whole process in the hopes that it would work without root (spoiler: it didn't). The bigger spoiler was that apparently I never had MultiCSC to begin with ... even though in both download and recovery mode it says 'applying MultiCSC'...

After some digging I found out that the 'applying MultiCSC' message is standard. If the ROM is single CSC, it can only install the one. Still, the phone is rooted, and Titanium Backup is also installed (so root confirmed), with status: official (no SuperSU, no BusyBox yet, for anyone interested).

I guess the next question would be: Which stock rom (from SamMobile, or Samsung Updates though I am open to other links) is MultiCSC, and how can I tell?

And will flashing said stock rom not trigger Knox, as the kernel didn't?

You can't know wich firmware has other csc until you install them...

To find out what csc's has your current firmware you can install phone info samsung from google play. You have an option in menu regarding csc, it will tell you what csc has that firmwarw and also you can change the csc with this app. Remember that csc changing will master reset your phone

True, and in our case it is possible to find out the CSC by dialing *#1234#.
Am I correct to assume that installing a stock rom via Odin with different CSC won't trigger Knox?

I have rooted CNK1 and knox still is 0x0, just only needed to flash older kernel.
Me too, and flashed the newer kernel as well, but it is not what I am asking.

Will flashing a stock rom trigger the knox? Logic says no, but can someone who has done it verify it?
(I am just a reply away from a cool present :fingers-crossed: )

No worries, a stock Rom via odin will not trigger knox! Done it many times!
Many thanks, mate, just the confirmation I needed! Sorry to everyone for the 20+ questions, but it is one thing to tinker with your own toy, and another to prepare a gift for someone  ...

Update for everyone and anyone looking into these questions :fingers-crossed: : So I went and flashed another stock rom over my old one with Odin. The old rom was NEE-I9195XXUCNK1-20141202201409, specific for the Nordic countries, and the one I 'needed' was EUR-I9195XXUCNK1-20141127142540 for the Greek networks (CSC from NEE to EUR). Both roms share the same kernel XXUCNK1, which (logically) eliminates compatibility problems, and the same release date, according to Samsung-Updates.com (I hope I am not out of line with the hotlinking). Flash went flawlessly, Knox counter is still zero, and system status is still official. So, at least flashing between non-branded stock roms doesn't upset the warranty check at all.

I will root later using towelroot, and since the process from a couple posts before (old stock kernel -> towelroot -> new stock kernel -> Titanium Backup, no SuperSU, no BusyBox) worked for the NEE CSC without tripping Knox or changing the official status, I don't see why it shouldn't work for the EUR CSC of the same kernel.

Again, many thanks to everyone here, especially andu86 for his patience and guide. :good:

How do you achieve root status if you dont install supersu? You need to have supersu so that titanium and all other apps can work in full power.

I wondered that myself, since SuperSU should be the 'root rights managing app'. But after applying towelroot successfully (and flashing the new kernel), I installed Titanium Backup (besides the CSC change, it was the other reason for root on this phone, as it is meant as a gift) before SuperSU in order to check the status (official or custom). Surprisingly, TB works flawlessly, has (or at least claims to have) root access, and performs backups as it should, no errors or malfunctions. I could be missing something, but as I said, there hasn't been an error yet. Will definitely keep an eye out, though...

Dangerous! Without a root managing app like SuperSU or others like it, the whole phone is open for malicious apps, processes and actions. Nothing that controls what is done to the root parts of the phone. It not good. The risk pretty high!

Hmm, that is certainly a very valid point. The root security is definitely worth more than a meaningless official status. Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention, I shall install SuperSU at once. :)

Hello everybody. Just rooted my new galaxy s4 mini running stock kitkat out of the box(nk1). I just flashed the old kernel, then 'makeitrain', then flash nk1 kernel. Installed supersu. KNOX HAS NOT TRIPPED AND EVERYTHING IS OFFICIAL
