[TREBLE][Oreo][How-To] Install any Generic System Image (GSI) on the Razer Phone

How are you installing them?
I fastboot load TWRP (without installing to the phone) then flash the .img to system partition. Good to go! I've never tried installing TWRP permanently, seems to work good loading it temporarily via fastboot.
Always seems best to start from stock Razer Oreo ROM before flashing GSI.

I finally got the gsi's to boot I ended up having to flash this as encryption of the data partition wasn't playing nicely with any gsi's. That's even with a full factory reset.

Guys can I ask what GSI have you all been installing and what are the bugs that could potentially stop everyday usage. Also does Dolby still work or is it installable?

Installed GApps using my own downloaded GApps installer (Micro). I obviously had magisk 17.1 flashed on boot.

Some issues in terms of the navigation bar not hiding like in Snapchat, it would cover the buttons.

Also if I got a call or made a call, the sound would be normal but if I switched to speakers and back to in ear audio, the audio would no longer work unless only on speaker,

To cleridy: I get a call, I pick up, I can hear the other person, now I decide to click on speaker phone, audio is still fine, now if I switch back to in ear audio, no would would come out, and you must switch to speaker or hang up and make the call again.

I also tried installing viper4android only to get stuck at boot animation.
I did not conduct further testing however. At the time I had Xposed installed.

i cant seem to install gsi's nearly 1 year later. it either hangs in the boot animation, reboots to twrp, or into bootloader. I tried ffashing via the fastboot command and flashing the .img to system partition to no avail. I've even attempted to flash it in a temporary boot to latest twrp 3.2.2-0 for this device and nothing

I've tried a few of these GSI's on my Razer now and none of them seem to work right, Ive just tried LineageOS and it booted up really fast, everything as it should be, I sign into my Gmail and restore from previous backup, all goes fine. Then phone starts and is downloading apps in background.. everything fast and smooth and working great, then after about 10 mins the phone becomes slow, unresponsive, black screen, won't boot.. then I had to hold the power button for 30 seconds to reboot the thing which gave me a few minutes to get the phone into download mode before it died again.. What would be causing this ?

Try to base your work in the mr1 update and update the result. If that's what you are using then I have to do some testing to give an answer. So sowee

I am currently on the newest MR2 Global image, MR1 had too many issues like Bluetooth not connecting, so I don't really want to go back to that build! In the instructions it says MR1 or newer! So MR2 should work with LineageOS ?

i am really struggling trying to get this to work, tried several times and all i get is encrypted or stuck on boot screen, what is Oreo DP1 image ? the factory images on Razer site all begin with MR0 / MR1 etc. i cant find a DP1 img anywhere. i would like to get aptx working so decided to install custom rom because it just doesnt work on Razer factory img at all, im ready for giving up now, im tired of flashing my phone back to stock every time it goes wrong. also i believe Magisk no longer disables dm_verity in the newer versions, every time i have installed Magisk v18 dm_verity is preserved.

I tried again using all of the info but they closest I've gotten to a boot is the Android logo and then a prompt to decrypt but no matter what I enter I get "Decryption Unsuccessful" and it just brings me back to TWRP

Remember don't flash Magisk or you will break WIFI.
Afer finish flash GSI, try this

fastboot erase userdata

then

fastboot set_active a && fastboot reboot

or

fastboot set_active b && fastboot reboot

depend which slot you install! after that you will able to boot your any GSI.

It's a known issue with Magisk and Android 9/Pie. Short answer - no, Magisk will always break WiFi

i have wiped my phone and then tryed to use the Prebuilt boot image: to restore it and no luck its just in a boot loop i dont know how get it to work is it not working because the phone is wiped and i need to install a OS ?
