Really need to fix my phone as somehow when I was downloading a newer version of Android through updates it somehow corrupted them instead and has caused my phone to stay at the Android Logo and never moves from that spot.

So trying to install the latest version for my phone manually. Be looking around but it's a little confusing with all these different RUU's you can choose from and as this is my first time doing this I don't really wanna just randomly choose one. This is what I got from my phone any idea which one RUU I should be using?

Is there anything I should do once my phone has optimised my apps?
When you have "optimising apps" screen, that means the RUU was successfully installed. Once it finished the optimising part, it should boot to setup screen. If it boots back to splash screen or bootloader I'm afraid you may have hardware issue.

Nah everything is all good! Thank you very much... Seems I now have my phone back and am noobish to these ROMs especially custom ones, what are the pros and cons to custom ROMs to the standard ones?

That is a difficult question to answer. Reason being, there is a big range/variety of custom ROMs; and reasons for using them.

Some custom ROMs are based on HTC Sense (stock HTC ROM) but add various customization options, remove bloatware, add performance tweaks, etc.

If you look at other kinds of custom ROMs, such as Lineage or other "AOSP" based ROMs, these are a departure form the HTC "Sense" skin altogether. These typically will be closer to a "pure Google" Android experience - think Nexus of Pixel type device (no HTC customizations), although will also have a good amount of customization and performance options/tweaks. Also keep in mind, that using this type of custom ROM will cause you to lose HTC apps, such as the HTC camera app (which is actually quite good) and use of dual camera, etc.

If the idea of custom ROMs interests you; your best bet is to look through the various ROM threads for the M8. See what features interest you. If a ROM(s) strikes your interest enough to try it, then go for it. To do so (in general terms) you will need to: unlock bootloader, flash TWRP custom recovery, backup your stock ROM in TWRP, and flash the custom ROM of your choice.
