Trying to hack new Google Play Games Beta for Windows

So i just got an email from Google about joining the Google Play Games Beta for Windows. (Lets you play Android Games in Windows).

Seems to work well though quite limited on what is on offer.

I was clicking around and found the "Developer Options" for it which lets you get into some Android Settings.

The link to the Beta is here: (This is my link so not sure if it will work it says please click on it on the Windows machine you want to use it on).

You can get to the advanced Settings by clicking on on your User Icon on the Bottom Left -> Settings -> Then clicking 5 times on the App Version.

Hoping we can work out Root or at least Sideload APK. Going to keep playing around! Help me out if you like!

Was hoping i could launch "Files" or "Chrome" to then get an APK into the environment though i get the following error:

Seems to think the Advanced Application is essentially a "Game" separate from the Loader.


Strange these Advanced Settings only seem to work once.. after the first Launch it doesnt seem to work again without uninstall/reinstall of the whole suite.

I was somehow able to get Chrome to launch. I was messing with the "Advanced Settings" menu as well, and allowed Chrome to Install Unknown Apps. I then tried opening a few different apps, and Google Chrome randomly opened properly.

After this,
Chrome seems to be completely free to open now, and doesn't give the same error when launching from the Apps menu in Advanced Settings. It works perfectly.

I did download an APK file, and attempt to open it. When you open the file, it shows the error "The game attempted to redirect you to another application", seemingly because it is trying to open the Files app, which I haven't found a similar workaround to open.

Hey, I did exactly the same thing today, it says that the app (advanced settings) is not configured to allow that action.

In the first pic via advanced settings, choose Special app access, then install unknown apps, then Chrome and turn it on.

Although as the last post says we are still blocked from an easy way at the moment.

I also via Chrome on my PC, logged into my Play account and attempted to download apps. Which the last image shows, not sure what the HPE device is, thinking maybe it might be the Windows Google Play Games.

Also wanted to mention I am able to get back into Advanced settings, just have to click 5 times again.

I was able to open any application from settings after disabling the PlayClientService system app... however, doing so will also prevent the Google Play Games beta (the Windows app) from being able to open any application, so once you exit the Settings app (unless you find a way to get back to settings without exiting whichever application you opened) you are screwed and must reinstall Google Play Games.

Also, the package installer now pops up, but it will say "Unknown apps can't be installed by this user"

EDIT: I'm also able to disable that service, re-enable it and quickly open an app... but as soon as the app reboots and it detects an unauthorized application running, it kills it

EDIT2: The Play Store seems to be a cut version with only books and supported games; I also tried opening a Play Store link from Chrome and it redirected me to the Play Store app... but didn't go too well

No need to reinstall, just sign out of your google account and sign in again.

I was able to open file manager from chrome by file:///sdcard but as you know I can install downloaded Apps

It'll probably only be a matter of time before game trainers and hex editors will allow us to hack the android games completely doing away with nonsense micro-transactions.

I used to have a Toshiba thrive with a custom rooted rom and was able to use a hex editor to find the memory locations of consumables (like boosts, health, potions, etc) and override their quantities. Having an infinite number of level boosts on a crap game like candy crush for instance was so fun.

I figured out the URI the application is using to open apps in the store page:

googleplaygames://deeplink/details?id=[package name here]

e.g. (if Firefox was supported)

1. Press Win + R to open the run box.
2. Enter googleplaygames://deeplink/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox and press OK
3. This should open the Firefox app store page inside of the Google Play Games app on Windows.

If an app is supported, this may allow you to install it.

I've noticed when finding an eligible game from the play store via the browser, there is the option "Install on Windows"... clicking this (and the subsequent "Yes, open beta" button) just redirects to googleplaygames://deeplink/details?id=[package name here]&eip=[generated based on app, user logged in, and request # made to battlestar server]

Note: "battlestar" seems to be Google's code name for Google Play Games PC server.

Beyond that, I've not figured out how to get a working EIP generated, but what I do know is that the string in the EIP section is partially base64 encoded.

This is an issue related to overflow VRAM. Monitor on your Task Manager > Performance tab > GPU > overflow Dedicated GPU memory.
