Greetings,

I started the process of updating my TWRP so that I can upgrade to the newest version of android on the oneplus 5.

I downloaded twrp 3.3.1-0 cheeseburger.img and have successfully flashed the recovery.

D:\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.3.1-0-cheeseburger.img
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'recovery' (33684 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.717s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.161s]
finished. total time: 0.880s

I then tried to do the fastboot boot recovery.img command from the other guide.
fastboot boot twrp-3.3.1-0-cheeseburger.img

https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/help/issues-booting-twrp-t3821978

However; my device doesn't boot up into twrp after this command. If I hold down the volume up botton and the power button to load the boot loader and then scroll up/down to the boot into recovery mode option - the device restarts and then just goes to a black screen.

Thank you in advance.

Hello, you simply have not the android 9.0 Pie firmware which is required for this build number of recoveries.

That's a common issue and mainly discussed and written in stable and open beta OxygenOS threads :)

You need to update your rom/firmware and after this the recovery. So please flash back your old recovery used before.

Please answer this:

What is you current twrp recovery (file name)?
What is your current Rom(file name)?
What is your magisk version?
Is your storage encryped or decrypted?

What is you current twrp recovery (file name)? i was using twrp 3.2.1 codeworx before
What is your current Rom(file name)? xXx nolimits 7.1.2
What is your magisk version? i believe it was 7.3.2
Is your storage encryped or decrypted? TWRP used to not ask me about the password, so i believe decrypted.
I flashed the codeworx 3.2.1 and can now boot up into recovery.
Would my next step be to flash an android 8.0 rom?

Thank you,

What is your current Rom(file name)? xXx nolimits 7.1.2
What is your magisk version? magisk v19.3(19300)
Is your storage encryped or decrypted? TWRP used to not ask me about the password, so i believe decrypted.

Oh, that's quite old...

The best and imo only way to update to OxygenOS 9.0.8(if you want that) is to clean flash OxygenOS 5.1.4 and then take ota to 9.0.8 then flash twrp from fastboot (3.3.1) again and root with magisk and flash latest xXx magisk mod(if you want it again, it's hosted here https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...isk-rom-xxx-nolimits-7-0-speed-ram-t3933927).

The problem is that you have a custom stock rom which is too old and deprecated(now its a magisk module).

I think i'll just stay on stock oxygen os with magisk. on top of that I'm trying to find the oxygen os 5.1.4 rom so i can flash it.
I believe this is the right thread:
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/oneplus-5-oxygenos-5-1-4-official-download-links.557183/
But is this the correct zip file?
http://otafsg.h2os.com/patch/amazon...us5Oxygen_23_OTA_037_all_1807181258_7b4b6.zip
Within oneplus-5 forum guides section you'll find an index thread for old roms and it's file names https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...rors-official-oxygen-os-t3628190/post72826289 :)

I flashed this:
5.1.4: OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_037_all_1807181258_7b4b6.zip

After sideloading the above rom my command terminal says:
D:\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>adb sideload OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_037_all_1807181258_7b4b6.zip
Total xfer: 1.00x

After rebooting it loops a couple of times and then launches back into twrp.
I was going to try to flash the following, but i'm not sure if it'll help.
5.1.5: OnePlus5Oxygen_23_OTA_038_all_1808082017_ebb1d69f37.zip

I flashed this one as well and it did not work. For now i'm going to use recovery to restore my xXx no limits backup. Till i can figure out what the next steps are.

You have really clean flashed 5.1.4? By wiping system data cache and formatting internal storage?

I am having the same problem

Hi

I am on a Oreo ROM Res Remix and I want to go into Recovery mode and back up the phone to upgrade to PIE. I also have latest Magisk installed

I have TWRP installed but not the latest one so I tried to update it. However now when I go to try to get into recovery mode the screen is black and the power light is blue. I can reboot the phone but I just cannot get it into recovery.I tried via TWRP and also via Power button, home and volume up and can get into bootloader choose recovery and same issue

Have the latest official TWRP app from the play store and when I try to choose One Plus 5 Cheesburger and then choose twrp -3.3.1.0-cheeseburger.img and I download this but I can’t load this img up. There are 2 images md5 and sha256

Reading post do I have to flash codeworkx 3.2.1-0 and if so how can I flash this if I cant get into recovery?

Cheers

Updated

Sorted flashed 3.2.1-0

I did not wipe my internal storage - i did the factory reset option which I assume was wrong?
If i wipe my internal storage, would I need to side load the rom?

Strongst,

I followed the steps you sent:
Wipe system, data, cache. Flash, 5.1.4 THEN format internal storage

So you don't need to sideload or get it from usb storage"
After all of this I boot into a fresh copy of the oneplus software on android 8.1.0.

I started the download of the system update through the settings > system updates.
Do I need to do anything special after the download is finished to retain my twrp?

Hello, if you reached 9.0.8 by ota you need to flash twrp again from fastboot as mentioned before https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/help/trying-to-update-twrp-t3968038/post80243712

:good:
