I have a Locked ATT, and went thru this process to globalize my duo.
Instruction Process was Great, and informative. All went as expected, and Root Worked, but still locked to carrier.

I did notice ESIM option is available on my unit, but trying to add more fails to load the app, assuming because its still locked.
Surface Duo - 2202.832.34 Clean IMEI

tried a bunch of ways to do the unlock the Carrier (anymore would be helpful :) , but again due to not ever being activated or purchased thru ATT, and Good Old MS and ATT were no help to unlock.

Hi there,

Wow that's very interesting, i got a lot of responses saying that this wouldn't work so never ended up trying.

Did you try codes2unlock for getting an unlock code?

OK can confirm that this adds the + icon in the network options, but pressing it does nothing, even with a sim unlocked AT&T device.
Confirming that the esim restriction is both hidden in the menu, and restricted on the modem, and changing the rom only unlocks the menu, but doesn't make E-sim functional.

I read that the Esim on AT&T devices does not have an imei which stops it from working, and that both the physical Sim and Esim share the same imei in the unlocked Duos.
So maybe we can add the imei to the Esim somehow?

Did you unlock it by following the instructions in this thread? If not, can you share how you unlocked it? Both AT&T and MS refused to provide the unlock code

first of all many thanks for the link - the others I tried were dead.

Secondly, I must apologize to members of the forum if some of my question are silly, but i am really unsure on some of the steps so please bear with me - your answers to my questions might help someone else who is in similar situation

3.Copy all the partition images /sdcard/duo on the target Surface Duo. - does this mean to copy all *.img files from payload.bin ?

So just to confirm, you managed to unlock the AT&T locked model by flashing the global version shared in this thread?

No, changing the rom to the global version will not affect the sim lock from AT&T.

I got mine unlocked by unlockcodes a third party. Although it did take 3 months to get the code.

Even if you get Duo unlocked, it still won't support E-sim - which was what I wanted to try.

yes, make a folder called duo in the /sdcard/ directory, and after you extracted all the img files from the international version into the 'output' folder, you copy all those files onto your phone in the 'duo' directory you just created.
However if you are doing this for e-sim or for sim unlock, it won't do that.

It will make the update channel faster (as the MS updates come before AT&T) although possibly may break updates, and will remove the AT&T customisation software, but add in the Microsoft ones.

thank you for your clarification.

Yes, I am indeed looking for way to unlock my AT&T device to be used with other SIM as well, at least with one physical SIM (eSIM would be nice too).

Do you happen to know any way on how to get it unlocked please?
