Turn Off Round Icons in System

Hey,
I want to Upgrade from my S5 to the Pixel 2 or the Next Google Smartphone (When its out).
The Problem is, i dont like these Round Icons and the Blue Pixel Color Scheme.
My Question now is, can i decompile the framework-res.apk and edit it and then recompile and then replace the old file?

So, the Plan is:

Round Icons >> AOSP Icons (no Round Icons)
Blue/Grey Color Scheme >> Teal/Blue_Grey Color Scheme (Aosp)

Simple answer is: yes

But... Not sure it is worth it, considering you'll have to Root your device to do it. Also, everytime you update to a new security patch, you'll have to do the modification again. Finally, OTA will fail since you modified system...

A hassle free, cheap alternative:

Install a custom launcher + an icon pack >> AOSP Icons (no Round Icons)
Substratum + a theme >> Teal/Blue_Grey Color Scheme (Aosp)

Less work, OTA still works...
