Turn proximity sensor on and off

How do I turn the proximity sensor on? I found some instructions on Verizon's site and they did not match up with what I have on my phone.

I don't believe there is an option to turn it on or off. It is always on as far as I know.

Thank you! Someone ought to tell Verizon this. They give instruction for it and none of the options exist.

Has anyone had a message come up on galaxy 8 that says that if I don't turn on my proximity sensor that I will not be able to use my digit entry on lock screen? I just got that mess this am.

Yes, same issue past couple days. Screen also goes dark while I read email. Quirky phone since the last update.
