I have an Notebook with USB3.0 and also Power-USB. (Power usb only works with a dockingstation).
The charging is also bad. Takes about ~4 hours from 2% - 100%.

I thought about power reducement by phone, when dataconnection is available. Now I know it for sure :-/

Also for me...

Does it depend on the kind of USB cable? I have 4 USB 3.0 ports and all behave exactly the same, slow charging times...

So, by performing the cable mod should this be solved? or do I need to stop the data connection?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

It must be possible to purchase fast charge USB cables somewhere for those who only want to use it for charging and not for data transmission. Why is it so difficult to locate those dealers?

You want a cable that is described as usb charge cable and if it says somewhere that it can't be used for data then it will work.

The other option is to mod a short USB extension cable so you don't have to damage your HTC cable.

On my PC I have a program that allows you to tell it to supply more current to a USB port for charging iPhones, iPads and other phones. I think my USB ports can supply up to 2A.

Thanks mox123. I used this to stop my car head unit trying to read from my satnav. I can now power it via usb only ;)

Awesome guide.... must I will give it a try... but as far as I know... as the engineer this cause damage to the LCD , battery , processor , board , or the damge to the micro usb port... So as the OP said u have to try at ur own risk as other users also shared there experiences and so far got lucky... But I give it a try... Thats what moding is thats what XDA is.......

Well **** me! How on earth do they charge their laptop then?!?
Do I really need to explain this to you? I guess it would be hard to understand for those who believe the whole world revolves around them, so I'll go ahead. Some people go to work in places where they do not have access to a wall outlet but they can still bring their laptops, so they charge their laptops at home (hopefully that answers that part of your question). If they happen use their phone more than they use their laptop one day, it would be nice having the ability to quickly recharge their phone (since again they do not have access to a wall outlet while they're at work) with their laptop. Just because you can't think of a situation where something would be needed, it doesn't mean that situation doesn't actually exist. It just means the world doesn't revolve around you like you think it does. :D

Worked like a charm

Anyone wanting to know how to fast charge using the usb port on your pc/laptop?

This usually takes ages compared to charging via mains lead, the hack itself is quite simple and involves modifying the usb cable

my results are as follows (these can vary depending on what you are using your phone for, what background apps running, etc.

charging with mains lead :
4.2v
998mah
mains ac

charging with STANDARD usb lead:
422mah
3.999v
standard usb

and finally the MODIFIED usb lead hack:
4.161v
782mah
usb hack

as you can see it is a 53% increase in charging compared to standard usb charging mah, and slightly under mains ac charging mah,

as my phone is always plugged in at my work pc or home pc or laptop or whatever this works out good

TUT:
use at your own risk this is for information purposes only and I hold no responsibility to any damage that may arise

using a micro usb cable (charging cable for htc phones)
cut it using a pliers half way through the cable
using pliers again cut away the thick black wiring, the red and black small wiring, and white and green wiring
from the usb port end to the microusb connect the black and red cables together so they join
from the microusb end short out the white and green cables together
from the usb port end leave the white and green cables, do not touch these
use insulation tape/solder to clean it up and then your cable is ready
I will make a mod for car chargers also soon

see attached image showing which wires to cut and which to join up and which to leave alone, if this helped you in anyway (it should help you :) ) then please hit the thanks button

this mod will trick your pc/laptop/htc into thinking that it is not a pc usb cable and will allow higher currents and voltage to your phone
you can check this with current widget from market place

once this mod is done, you cannot use the same cable again for pc/usb tethering or usb disk drive, only cable can be used for charging

Worked like a charm for me, it is the best solution i could all over the internet. i am getting a good charging average 10%/14mins.

mAh is for capacity, not for current (mA is for current). also are you sure about the voltages of the usb port? they're too low! they're used to be 5v! there are several tools for measuring usb port current and voltage like 'usb charger doctor'.

Am I correct in assuming that if I plug non HTC cable into the HTC charger, the charger will automatically short the data lines?

I have tried a lot of non-HTC cables and two HTC OEM cables. The phone always, charges much much faster with the OEM cables.
The only way I could get non OEM cables to work was with Kernel Fast Charge mods. So it is indded possible to get 1Ah charging with those cables.

Currently, the kernel I'm using doesn't support fastcharge. Can anyone help me out?

Specifying 4.161v, 782mah is equivalent to specifying 4.161, 187.9mA.

---------- Post added at 09:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:45 PM ----------

Well, I went ahead and chopped up my OEM (the one that came with my phone) damaged HTC cable and one other non-OEM Samsung cable. I shorted the data pins on the phone end and voila it is working. I just hope that my contraption holds long enough.

Can anybody please answer my question in the above post?

Specifying 4.161v, 782mah is equivalent to specifying 4.161, 187.9mA.
mAh or Ah is a unit for electrical charge, but mA is a unit for electrical current.
Ampere is a unit for electrical current which means the amount of electrical charge transferred in seconds (coulombs over seconds, q/t).
Amp-hour is a unit which means the amount of electrical current transferred in an hour(=3600 secs, coulombs multiplied by 3600, q).

and for the question, you can buy a female and a male USB connector, and connect these back to back, and then connect data+ and data- lines together, and connect the GND,Vcc lines to the other pair. then plug the male side to the charger and plug the cable to the female side.

Yes I eventually did short the data pins.

Also, you are correct. I misread erringly assumed he was specifying power (My Sensation XE battery has 1730 mAh charge = 1.7 C. For a typical full charge time of 3 hours, 1.730/(3) = 0.57666666666A which is close to his givespecification for mA).

Also, a fully charged battery has a pd of 4.3V, so yeah 4.1 seems unlikely.
