Hi yuweng ,
I wanted to root my alcatel 997d , so I tried lots of tools like Bin4ry_v17, MtkDroidTools , SuperOneClick , Z4root .
None of all these tools worked , although the pc recognized the device , and there is an android adb interface .
Could the version of the system( which is Baj-0 ) be the reason to prevent these tools from doing the root , and is there a final way to root my device ?

@ DroidCell & mogamycool
Bro, this whole thread here is about MT65xx ROM Porting & your question is completely off topic...

@mogamycool
Since you are here, and i thought jman0 has already answered you here...
You need adb driver & if you don't have it, its here... Reboot to Factory Mode, install adb driver & hit that ROOT button at MTK Droid Tools & you'll have your device rooted...

Any further question shall be ask at this thread here my friend...

Re: [TUT] MT65xx ROM Porting

Bro! Some history created today!

First custom kernel for MTK!!

A110 got one with varunchitre15's help!

Hope new kernels emerge soon from all places!

THESE ARE 2 PHONES WITH ALL THINGS SIMILAR EXCEPT MODEM

QMOBILE NOIR A8
2G NETWORK
MTK6577
1GHZ DUAL CORE

FLY IQ441
2G/3G NETWORK
MTK6577
1GHZ DUAL CORE

The thing is that FLY IQ441 got JB for their device that I tried to flash on my A8 and lost the network and IMEI in result. My A8 runs on ICS 4.0.4, is there anyway I can patch my modem.img on JB of FLY IQ441?

Yeoh Bro, as said many times, JB ROM needs JB boot.img to boot up so unless your A8 has a similar case as A110 then you are indeed lucky to get it booted up... :fingers-crossed:

While many says A8 is a MT6517, there are two method to check, adb shell -> cat /proc/cpu_info, the other one is to reboot into Factory Mode & check out the Version to see if its indeed MT6517 or MT6577... Refer to here for more info... :fingers-crossed:

Just copy modem.img over if not whole /system/etc/firmware to ported ROM... :fingers-crossed:

As said, you never try, you'll never know, just as boybakat here, he ported MT6575 ROM to his MT6515 SoC... :good:

Not worked...Any other options:(
Move on to another ROM...

I checked via cpuinfo and A8 is MT6577. Here is the attached screenshot.

I compared the boot.img of ICS of A8 with boot.img of JB of FLY IQ441, they were same bit by bit. I flashed the Jelly Bean on my device, the problem is that I am unable to access root privileges. When I tried to root through MTK Droid Root and Tools I got this message.

MT6517.jpg

What do you think might be the problem. How can I get root privileges?

I want to port ROMs from GN700W, but its files are in the SP Flashtool format, can you tell me how to make a flashable zip from those files? I mean android kitchen supports boot.img and system.img file format. But these files are in format of system.ext4.tar

Re: [TUT] MT65xx ROM Porting

Bro, you have to read the whole thread here not here... :cowboy:
Bro I have an idea for porting ics to mt6573:

*We can build a kernel with mt6573 source and see if it boots and works properly.

*If it works, then we can replace the kernel folder + other in MT6575/77 full source with the working kernel folder in mt6573 source.

*then build a full rom for mt6575/77 with the replaced kernel folder + drivers and also with the mt6373 configs...

Then try flashing it in a mt6573 device...

What do you think??

Please Help me out, I am out of ideas. I downloaded GN700W ROM from here. I replaced its boot.img file with mine and its modem.img file with mine and then flashed it. All I see is the initial logo (the one that appears before bootanimation) and the mobile is stuck there forever. I have A8 the specs are completely same except 3G.

In fact, it is possible but involves alot of patching, same old story limited source code....

i've been following up on Miui for HTC Desire previously, almost same spec as MT6573 & they manage to port Miui-V4 which is ro.build.version.sdk=15(ICS) but again may be not worth the effort for an obsolete device...

Please Help me out, I am out of ideas.
Bro, if it doesn't boot then just move on, try other ICS ROM, as said many times, JB ROM needs JB boot.img specifically for your device then only it will boot...

If you are so sure both hardware is exactly the same then flash everything in, it might boot or it might brick your device...

I have flashed everything in it and my device didn't brick.

But I was talking about ICS ROM not JB :D
