Tutorial: How to use KIES Emergency Firmware Recovery (EFR)

Pls i need your help. I'm using a samsung galaxy s2 at&t and i need to upgrade it cos vitually all my apps have stopped workin. Tried using kies but when i enter the model name, a notification will show and say 'Check the model name and enter it'. Also tried the emergency firmware recovery in the tool box but my device is not showing on the list. The list is just blank. Need your help. Cos i'm so frustrated right now

Guys ... if kies is not working for you, and youve done all the proper things like: downloading the correct version of kies for your model (not necessarily the current one) making sure you have the correct samsung usb drivers and most importantly double checking your carriers model number (carriers use the same model number but add an extra letter number or two, to teflect their company) , then its time to learn how to use odin. This is an old thread, and only pertains to the mentioned phone per say. Tbh im starting to think that Sammy has legacy'd the older galaxy and have excluded them from kies all together. If it doesnt work, dont tske any chances on borking your phone its time to learn how to use Odin. The same of course applies: carrier/model specific for flashing. I have not used kies in years because imo Odin is now the way to go, but info up before you do anything. Im on a gn4 atm and once i get my hands on the new puxel xl or maybe a gn8 (if that happens) ill test out kies and see what works and what doesnt with my phone. If any one has used kies recently please post your model and experience.

plz help, I tried upgrade my galaxy note4 SM-N910G (INU) using odin and upgrade failed in the process. I never done 'emergency firmware recovery', rite now I m at no mans land... HELP:crying::silly:

Sigh... see this is what im talking about. Odin is not for upgrading your phone. Find your firmware, then reflash using odin. Please research the proper way to do this. Notice i didnt say upgrade. Flash your phone back to its stock os. You should be able to find it on sammobile.com. Odin is not for upgrading, per say its strictly to flash regardless of firmware. Gl

Galaxy SM-J700T in my present softbrick configuration is not supported by Kies, probably because the phone driver wont install under Kies or Smart Switch, so no way to manually select phone or get any serial.

Does not recognize my phone...

I put my phone in DL mode, I plugged in USB port when I enter into emergency firmware recovery menu. Obv I have installed the updated samsung usb drivers. After 10 minutes Kies won't recognize that. I tried the same procedure many times.

Is the phone recognized in Odin 3.07? Tried different USB ports and USB cables?
