Hi,

I'm trying to get ROOT/S-OFF or Root.

My phone is S-ON HBoot 2.09

3.16.651.3

radio 1.12.11.1210

I first tried using HTC unlock and supersu didn't work. Next I tried to fastboot boot TWRP and it failed to load.

Now I want to S-OFF the phone with root.

My bootloader is now "Tamperred" with relocked. I tried to RUU and it failed, may need a newer RUU.

Where should I start?

Thanks in advance!

What do you mean supersu didn't work?
Did you read the readme.text there are instructions there on how to fastoot flash twrp?
The only way to S-OFF with 3.16.651.3 is to use DirtyRacun(Linux only) or use the BabyRacun portion then use FacePalm.
You should not need to RUU unless you want to go back to stock.
Start by unlocking again at HTC-Dev.
If you need help feel free to PM me :D

Supersu market installed but my apps say NO ROOT.

I didn't flash the image of the recovery. I just wanted to boot it first until I figured things out. CMD "fastboot boot twrp.img"

So my security issues won't interfere with the S-OFF process?

Thanks!

To mpeg3s,

Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding your issues, but a few things I noticed from your posts...

-You can't use a stock RUU on an unlocked/tampered with phone. In my experience it will always fail. You much relock your phone 1st; fastboot cmd:
Code:
fastboot oem relock
then flash the stock RUU. But like bigdaddy said, you don't need to flash a new RUU to unlock your phone.

-You can't flash/install a custom recovery until you unlock your phone. Follow bigdaddys' guide to the letter and it will be easy enough.

-You can't "boot" into a recovery without installing it first. Install recovery cmd:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.4.4.0-jewel.img
replace the "2.4.4.0" part with whatever version of twrp you're flashing.

-Then install the SuperSu zip through twrp.

-Lastly, while you have to be unlocked to get s-off, the processes are separate from each other. I wouldn't worry about s-off till you get the unlocking part down pat. :)

Sup XDA :D
This is my first(and hopefully many to come) contribution to the community.
The reason I put this together is I have been seeing a lot of posts in Q&A about "How do I root my Evo 4G LTE?" I have also seen posts in "other threads" asking "How do I get recovery and root back after using the latest S-OFF exploit?"

This is an updated and slightly modified version of Zedomax's root method. This is not my work I just did the legwork updating it.

I updated the TWRP Recovery to the latest version 2.3.1.0 and updated the SuperSU.apk to a more up to date version. I also added the factory divers.

This will work on all ICS/JB builds. Software versions (1.13.651.1 - 1.22.651.3 - 2.13.651.1 - 3.15.651.16 - 3.16.651.3)

<------If this helped you buy me a coffee :p

If you used the latest S-OFF exploit you can still use this as far as I remember your bootloader will already be unlocked so just flash the recovery and SuperSU.apk.

Using this method will NOT give you S-OFF it will help you unlock your bootloader(HTC-DEV) flash a custom recovery(TWRP) and install the Superuser app of your choice.

What's included:
Read Me Text (instructions,ADB commands, and whatnot)
<----- Updated 03/24/13
Mac User Text (helpful tips for Mac Users) <---- Added 01/05/13
ADB Tool
Drivers(both 64 bit and 32 bit)
ADB Drivers for HTC Evo4G LTE Solution(see Post 2) <---- Added 03/05/13

Superuser v 3.2 is post 2 and now added to all folders if anyone is having problems with SuperSU updating binaries <---- Added 12/22/12
SuperSU.apk v1.25

Changelog:

03/04/13 Added SuperSU v1.25 to Root Files and Post 2
03/05/13 Added ADB Drivers for HTC Evo4G LTE Solution (see Post 2)
03/13/13 Added TWRP v2.4.4.0 to All Files and Post 2
03/24/13 Added HTC-Sync Drivers to Root Files and Older Twrp Versions Folder and Updated ReadMe.txt
03/25/13 Added 32 and 64 bit driver zips to post 2
03/27/13 Added the latest HTC Drivers v4.0.1.001 and HTC BMP USB Drivers v1.0.5375(32 and 64 bit versions)
03/27/13 Removed HTC Sync Drivers it makes the files WAY to big if you need them see below
04/09/13 Added TWRP v2.5.0.0 to All Files and Post 2
04/22/13 Added a cmd shortcut to make it easier run all the commands

Anyone having problems with drivers you may need to go HERE and download the HTC Sync drivers.

I will update this thread as updates become available.
Hello bigdaddy619,

I have a htc one x ATT with software version 3.18.502.6. I think htc onex ATT and evo 4g are similar phones with different names (i guess). I am sure there might be changes in the system partitions. there is no root method for this 3.18 version so far. can i use your tool to root my htc one x? will it brick my phone?

thanks,

I am not a dev myself but the devs for htc one x could not find a way to find root (overcome the write protection to spoof the CID) for latest 3.18 build for HTC one x ATT. can we port this root method to htc one x (not as is though!)? If so, how would you rate the level of expertise needed to do so?

Thanks,

All you need is the version of twrp specific to your device afaik
But I think you are meaning s-off this won't do that

No.. what all we need is a way to break the HTC system write protection. As ATT blocked the unlocking of bootloader we have to spoof the CID (to Rogers for which HTCDev unlocks the bootloader), unlock the bootloader there by achieving the S-off using the trick by facepalm..

Do we have to adjust any partitions or just cut and paste the twrp for HTC one x ?

Thanks,

So I followed the instructions, my phone is unlocked and rooted, and I have twrp installed.

Whenever I attempt to flash any rom, the install appears to be successful. When I reboot the phone however, I end up getting stuck at the "HTC quietly brilliant" boot screen. No matter how long I let it sit there, the phone doesn't progress past this point.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If you are s-on you have to flash the kernel separatly
here is a guide on how to do it :D
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256478

First, download the ROM of your choosing to your computer. Once you've done this, navigate to where you downloaded the ROM and extract the boot.img from the ROM folder and place it in your ADB tools folder. The boot.img is the ROM's kernel, which is needed for the ROM to work. Place the ROM on your phone so that you can flash it via recovery. Flash the ROM like normal. Once completed, reboot to the bootloader (if using TWRP recovery you can do this from the reboot menu). Your phone should say Fastboot, highlighted in red. If not, use your volume keys to select the Fastboot option from the menu we discussed previously, then use the power button to select. You should then see the word Fastboot highlighted in red. Connect your phone and PC via USB cable. Once the connection is complete, you will see "Fastboot" change to "Fastboot USB". Open up a command prompt in ADB and type "fastboot flash boot boot.img" (without quotation marks). The kernel should then be flashed to your phone, unless you get an error message in the command terminal. Once successful you can then reboot your phone either via the command "fastboot reboot" (again without quotation marks) or by using the volume keys to select the reboot option in the bootloader menu and then pressing the power button. Once it begins to reboot, disconnect your phone from your PC.
