I am s-on ...

Will that be the case for all ROMs for me?
Yes and No lol
Some roms have kernel installers that flash the kernel for you if you are s-on I'm pretty sure sharky has added it to his rom.
Could also be a bad download did you check the MD5 before flashing?

BigD,

Thanks again for your help last night! Got my boy's phone rooted and loaded with a ROM.

One question: you helped me get the unlock.bin ... is that phone specific? Or device specific? My daughter has LTE also, and was thinking of rooting hers, but didn't know if that file would work.

It's specific to that particular device and can't be used on another.

I have now rooted my son's, daughter's, and wife's LTEs. Thank you for this post.

One thing I noticed ... rooting the EVO LTE wiped the phone each time. On my previous rooting (EVO 3D, 4G, Droid, Moment, etc), the phone would be rooted, but basically unchanged, allowing me to make a full nandroid of the fresh root. This did not.

I thought I did something wrong. The when it happened on the 2nd and 3rd roots, I realized it must be something either with this phone or this process.

Anybody else run into this? Or did I actually do something stupid?

(Obviously too late to do anything about it, the wife is pretty unhappy I lost all her data) :)

It tells you on HTC-Dev that it will wipe your device :D

where is that file

After downloading that file "Root_HTC_EVO_LIE.zip" and when I open it up there is no "Root_HBOOT_1.19" file in there. So I'm stuck! where is that file? I'm using Qbking77's youtube video tutorial to root my HTC, I've done it before but I lost root somehow, I've tried using twrp to root again because that Superuser zip is still in my root directory, but I get a "Fail" trying to do that, I even get a fail trying to flash cache or anything I try with twrp. But really where is that file at?
by the way his description doesn't match this website anymore. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

what did you name it to? I'm getting an error plus shouldn't say "Root_HBOOT_1.19" rather than "Root_HTC_EVO_LTE" in my CMD?

I can't post a screen shot :(

been working on this for over 3 hours today & like 5 hours yesterda:p
thanks for the fast reply. I also tweeted you.

I used this method to obtain root, have been rooted nearly two months. Now I am receiving notices that su binary needs updated, but both update methods fail, and receive notice that unit does not have root access. Still have custom recovery and super su installed.

Not sure what may have happened. Thoughts?

Did you try the recovery flashable zip for SuperSU?

I did all the "logical" steps.

- Installed recovery flash su
- Tried to un install su (system app would not un install without root)
- Tried to install different su app (clashed with existing app)

Finally installed custom ROM (wife was trying to stay stock). Now it's running good.

Thanks for reply!
