Hi there, My current configuration says bootloader unlock allowed: no,

If I do this rooting process, will the 4.04 Image that I flash be allowed to have the bootloader unlocked?

Thank you!

No, there's no need to have an unlocked bootloader. Go ahead ;)

But if I want to flash a custom ROM after rooting, will this factory image have a bootloader with the ability to be unlocked? Or is that built further into the settings?

You won't be able to unlock the bootloader of your device, but you may flash a custom rom for locked bootloader after rooting and installing cwm :)

Whaaaaat? I was under the impression as far as I have ever read that you need an unlocked bootloader to flash a custom ROM. I have just had a look through XDA and it seems you can! Thank you for introducing me to something beautiful! Though will they all be very closely related to a stock Sony Rom?

Yes that's it. They are all based on the stock rom and for your device only Android 2.3 or 4.0, all android versions above need an unlocked bootloader ;)

But you should just browse the development forum and find a custom rom for locked bootloader you like :)

Rooting xperia mini pro

i downgraded my phone's OS version to 2.3.4...I was using DoomLord's Easy Root Toolkit to install superuser app...however after completion, i could not see superuser app in the app drawer...while this utility was running, i could see error message like failed to copy superuser.apk etc...what could be the reason?

Did you connect your phone in MSC mode? And on which 2.3.4 version are you? :)

Try rooting using flashtool. If you don't know how to do that, please read my rooting guide (link in the stickies or in my signature) ;)
