Just found this in the Play Store, Android TV Store for any mobile device and Cast Store for Chromecast, obviously the Nexus Player has the cast feature so I have both apps on my phone.

Android TV Store - Apps meant to be installed on your Android TV
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=goko.tvs

Cast Store - Apps meant to be installed on the device you're casting from (Phone, Tablet)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=goko.gcs

Forgot to mention, I'm on LolliRock and installed this version of the Android TV Store. It helps a lot with games since it narrows down the ones that are compatible with our controller. Many in the regular Play Store require a touchscreen interface and they won't work on the Nexus Player..
Not sure if these apps are Leanback compatible though, haven't ran the stock ROM in awhile. If someone checks, please report back, thanks!

@OP

I'm on stock Rom, Rooted but both apps show up as incompatible with NP.
Thank you.
Sorry, better late than never, I guess..
Theres no point in installing the 2nd app on your NP.. The apps there are for the device you're casting from (phone or tablet), as stated in the OP... The apps in this particular "store," all have the cast feature enabled. These apps are meant to be used with a Chromecast, however, it's possible to use with the NP or any other device, you can cast to.. Like a Chromecast, apps aren't installed directly onto it, think of it as a "receiver" of the content for your big screen. Since its connected via HDMI, you're able to wirelessly send/cast images, vids or mirror your handheld device's content to it. For that reason, these apps are for your handheld device rather than the receiving device (Chromecast, NP, ect...). What's cool about the NP is that we can install apps on it and we can "cast" stuff from our mobile devices to it..

Regarding the first app listed here, your issue is clearly the fact that you're on the stock rom, which is why I previously mentioned I was on LolliRock. The stock rom doesn't allow installation of any apps that are not specifically designed for Android TV, so you'll run into this issue not only with the app listed here but, all non-TV apps.. This is one of many advantages of installing a custom Rom, other than stock. Just simply having root, won't help you in this situation, your UI is TV, you'll need a non-TV UI, to install non-TV apps...
Makes sense?

For sure, lol.
Thanks for replying though.
I eventually figured the stock Rom just won't do it. But TBH, I'm kinda disappointed at Android TV for lack of creativity and forward thinking!
