Hi! Someone please help me to use TWRP recovery on KitKat. :)

If I flash the version .236 with Emma and use "fastboot flash recovery Z1C-twrp-3.0.2.img", everything it works just fine by entering the recovery mode using the volume- and power button.

But I want to stay on KitKat and I can't manage to have a working recovery.
Using Flashtool I can flash the firmware version 14.4.A.0.157, next TWRP is flashed successfully using "fastboot flash FOTAKernel Z1C-twrp-3.0.2.img", but I can't find a way to enter the recovery mode. I have tried pressing volume- or volume+, both volume buttons, during power on, before power on, etc. Nothing works and there is no led light during power on the phone.

There is something I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

Did you try 'fastboot flash recovery'? What is the message in cmd when you flash? Also, for stock rom, you really can't go wrong with Nut xzdr, (however, I can't honestly say I remember using it on KK).

Thanks for your help. ;)

As you can see, I got the message that flashing TWRP succeeded with no error, using both methods: RECOVERY or FOTA.

How to enter to the recovery, if there is no led light and the method of pressing the volume- and power on is not working?

p.s. I have tried also NUT's XZDR, but unfortunately does not work for KitKat. :(

Probably not compatible with KK. Test it out with TWRP 2.8 - https://mega.co.nz/#!3gRwGZiK!sXMsMx1GGwUVkTCCsr8ntZekCE-o-hB4DDp6wlhVQqA If that works then I guess it's just the version...

There's also this, (from this thread) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67268044&postcount=50.
Also, if you have updated bootloader, you could try power off> press and hold volume down + power. Again, not sure about KK...

Thanks for your help and all the tips. ;)

I give up on trying to use TWRP with KitKat firmware and I have used the Cyanogenmod method, who is very easy to use, KitKat compatible, and I got a working CWM recovery in just a few seconds:

Best regards!

I need your help in the following question. I have an Z1C with open bootloader, rooted, and the your real recovery twrp installed. I can boot to real recovery with volume down-power buttons. The problem is that I cannot boot to recovery from any program that supports boot to recovery, like rom manager twrp manager etc....
In addition, since I have installed kryptonian 5.1.1, I tried to used the reboot recovery from kryptonian and it DID NOT succeed. In all occasions it reboots to system.
Is there any way around it?

You are right, but i suppose, these "boot to recovery" buttons are for the original "real" recovery from Sony. I never succeded too, to boot there. For what it is so important for you? As a workarround you can flash an normal dual-recovery on top, where you can boot in from NDRUtils.

I am happy to report that I just used this procedure on a Z1c and it worked ! :D

Had me scratching my head over how to go into TWRP though, I was expecting a light and vol + .....instead this one needs=
"press and hold VOL - (down volume) and hold down power key until the phone vibrates once."

Hi folks,

I've just unlocked the bootloader (and checked this later in the running system using the magic phone code). The device is running with the XZDualRecovery - PhilZ Touch and CWM and TWRP (2.8.7.0.) sinces a long time (don't remember how I've flashed that). Now I want to update the TWRP to 3.x but this does not work. :(
I've started the device in flash mode (blue led) and run that commands:
Code:
fastboot flash FOTAKernel Z1C-twrp-3.0.2.img
target didn't report max-download-size
sending 'FOTAKernel' (13324 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.420s]
writing 'FOTAKernel'...
OKAY [ 0.880s]
finished. total time: 1.300s

fastboot flash recovery Z1C-twrp-3.0.2.img
target didn't report max-download-size
sending 'recovery' (13324 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.420s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 0.880s]
finished. total time: 1.300s
Seems to be ok (less than a second for 12MB??? Maybe.).
But when I try to enter the recovery mode (after PowerOn press Vol- until purple led), always the old TWRP 2.8.7.0 starts up. :(

I tried also to update the TWRP in itself, but the installed version won't let me flash the recovery partition, only the kernel (???).

Is there anybody who could give me a hint?

[edit]
When the phone is off:
- when I press and hold (min. 10sec) PowerOn + Vol+ -> nothing happens
- when I press and hold PowerOn + Vol- -> the phone starts the Android system
To enter the TRWP (XZDualRecovery - PhilZ Touch) I do the following: after PowerOn when the green led appears I have to press Vol- until the purple led comes up.

Unfortunately not. When I start with PowerOn and Vol- together, the Android system starts. :(

---------- Post added at 11:38 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:25 AM ----------

Here I've found an advise about the new bootloader: "to have permanent recovery your bootloader must be unlocked and you need to enable that recovery mode in bootloader!"
The bootloader is unlocked. But how can I enable the recovery mode in bootloader? On other phones sometimes there is a setting like "OEM unlooking" in the developer settings. But not on my phone. Do I need flashing the "D5503_openbootloader.ftf" and how can I do this?

Meanwhile I've flashed the "D5503_openbootloader.ftf" using the flashtool and afterwards again flashed the recovery but no success. There is still the old XZDualRecovery when I enter the recovery mode. :(

Problem solved!!! :) I went the hard way.
1. Backing up my System and flashing the ROM provided by EMMA (This was the key!!! I assume there was something wrong with the existing installation.)
2. Boot the Android system and allow USB debug mode
3. Reboot in Bootloader and flashed the recovery image (from this thread)
4. Turned off the device
5. Booted up fine in TWRP 3.2.2. ;)
