With the 3.6.1-beta 1, I'm unable to flash a custom ROM for some reason it just crashes

Any backups that you use via Migrate crash too when flash through this twrp
Now my ROM is messed up. Booting takes forever, so I'm gonna do a TWRP backup restore. It previously hasn't gone well even for official twrp for my 6T.

Have the latest beta on my 8 Pro, everything works apart from decryption of data, doesn't prompt to unlock but I suspect that's down to android 12 as I'm sure it worked when I was on 11

im not sure what you are doing, but i cant flash any roms with your twrp, A11 nor A12. i CAN flash roms using @osm0sis posted on page 18

And those are just automatically built by TWRP's Jenkins build box, from the public source at the time of the build, so whatever's broken is broken locally on infected_'s machine I guess.
Hopefully he hasn't pushed anything new since that's been noted, so the working public source is still working.

Nope. On a12 roms twrp cant read internal storage (i got in2020 8 pro.). I tried to go back to oos after aospa12. Had to use msm. (tried formatting data and rebooting recovery, it was not saving screenshots even.)
I dont remember which twrp version i had at that time. Maybe a12 is supported now idk. I check afh time to time to see latest updates.

Thanks bro. Perhaps I gotta wait when A12 is supported. A11 OOS is still best on 8pro the way I see it.

Install oneplus usb driver, after disabling driver signature enforcement
Download and install platform tools, unzip and add the folder to Windows path,
"Settings > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables > New"
Example -> http:///imgur.com/a/x8XOofQ
open command prompt, or powershell, and:
fastboot flash recovery_a twrpname.img
fastboot flash recovery_b twrpname.img
Linux
Download and add to path (.bashrc) platform-tools:
export PATH=$HOME"/platform-tools:$PATH"
dont forget udev rules if you're using ubuntu based distro:
