TWRP Looping? Flashed TWRP logo over and over never loads

Can anyone help me with this? I got TWRP RC and this is my first thing I've done to my pixel XL .... I go to cmd prompt...
Typed:

Fastboot boot twrp.img

Flashes TWRP logo like it's failing to load. I should mention I am in the android beta program with it. I wouldn't be against rolling back at this point since my phone reset all my data (if I knew how). I'm on NPG05E

reflash recovery didn't help?

I had to download a stock image and fastboot that one ... then I could proceed. A bit of a hassle but much quicker than waiting for the OTA to install me back to 7.1.1
