Ok. It's done. Thx alot.
Another question I want to ask. Why before I install the TWRP Recovery, when I go to recovery, the screen only shows Red Phone with Cross?

Sent from my HTC U11 using XDA Developers 2016 Premium
When you see the red stock recovery symbol, there's a multiple item menu to see:
to get it, press power, then volume up

Stuck in limbo

So this is the closest I can find to the problem I am experiencing, but I haven't been able to resolve it, yet. I unlocked bootloader with HTCDev directions and went to install TWRP (3.1.1.1) with CMD prompt while in download mode. The phone appeared to show everything worked fine, but I can't do anything with the phone other than boot normally or into download mode. I can't even hard reset or install OTA update to phone without it putting me into a screen telling me "software may be corrupt" and either sending me back to download mode or rebooting.

I am on last straw here and need to figure out if I should just send phone back for refund.

Need to explain what you are trying to do? You can boot normally and get into Download Mode. If you mean that you are trying to update via OTA you need to be on an untouched System, stock boot and stock recovery. I kept getting the download is corrupted, however I was away on Hotel wifi. I believe the issue was it saw a corrupted sdcard. I just ended up flashing the signed_firmware via external sdcard way, and reflash TWRP. All data was saved doing it this way and seems to be the easiest.

The first thing I was trying to do was just unlock the bootloader. I had planned on installing TWRP recovery and root with custom ROM but I can't seem to get anywhere now. A hard reset does the same thing as trying to install the OTA. The only place I've messed with the phone is while on my home network. I never had an sdcard in the phone so maybe that's the problem? I have only been trying to do things via CMD prompts.

Where can I get the signed firmware and can that be flashed in download mode? I am not sure how else to do it right now since I can't boot into bootloader, at least not what I think is bootloader. When I select it as an option from the download mode screen the next screen doesn't look anything like a bootloader menu I've ever seen.

Here is the thread with all the firmware updates and such. https://forum.xda-developers.com/u11/how-to/collection-htcu-u11-ruu-firmware-t3612048
Yes with the U 11 the bootloader is different.
What is your version phone and why are you trying to get to bootloader Mode? Firmware and TWRP will be flashed in Download Mode. The only time you Bootloader Mode is to Boot TWRP(not install it, to basically backup the stock recovery).

I have the U11 unlocked. I was trying to boot TWRP and make a backup but I didn't even get to that part. I'll check out the firmware updates and see if there is something I can pull from there that will help straighten me out but I have a feeling I will end up returning the phone anyway since I am almost up on the grace period to do so and I haven't even had a chance to actually use the phone functionally on my network, yet.

Gotcha, yes reboot to Bootloader to boot in TWRP. New Bootloader is black screen with large colored text at top. If you couldn't boot into TWRP with fastboot boot twrp.img something went wrong. Could always return and then try again.

Last ditch effort to see if I can make any sense out of this. I've been trying to reflash TWRP and flash the firmware but both give me the same error. Does this make any sense?
target reported max download size of 536870912 bytes
sending 'recovery' (34744 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.983s]
writing 'recovery'...
FAILED (remote: Not allowed on PRODUCTION device)
finished. total time: 1.000s

did you enable debugging in Developers options. Connect device and look on phone to allow?
Are you in Download Mode?

first you should go and post your error in your device forums e4 plus this is for the htc U11 second make sure you are downloading the twrp right for your device the links here will get you the wrong version, third make sure your device has bootloader unlocked

Could you please help me with that? I have exactly the same error message like kraz. When I try to flash recovery in fastboot mode (fastboot flash recovery recovery.img) it says exactly the same "FAILED (remote: Not allowed on PRODUCTION device)". Adb is working when phone is booted, however it doesn't work while in download mode. And in fastboot mode the device doesn't show up when typing "adb devices" without any error message, just nothing happens.

Been trying to get TWRP on my U11 for devastating 5 hours.

What I already tried:

  1. fastboot boot recovery.img // The phone reboots into a black screen and is stuck
  2. fastboot flash recovery // above said error message appears
  3. flashify - phone is stuck on flashify

Also (I don't know if this is a thing or not) the phone says "**PRODUCTION**" when I'm in fastboot mode.

Any help would be highly appreciated :(

did you enable oem unlocking in developer options? Also usb debugging has to be enabled.

ok, are your sdk tools up to date?
I think so, yes. I downloaded latest "Minimal ADB and fastboot tools" and commands all work. I don't know, but I think there's some error with some of my partitions (Even though I didn't do anything yet except unlocking the bootloader). I now even factory reset the phone to no avail. Do you think it has to do with my windows machine? Do you maybe have a link of latest sdk?
What is a production device anyway?
P.S.: "adb reboot bootloader" is working fine for example

EDIT: Already downloading latest Android SDK Tools. Also (when in download mode) typing "fastboot devices" returns the serial number of the fastboot device...
