1479MB total? Pretty much a clean install you're backing up. As mentioned above, when you have a lot on the data partition, it fails (mine is 6GB). I think it's something to do with TWRP splitting the backup files, but I may be wrong!
also large files to backup are a problem. i had to uninstall map.me & data because the map files were too large. after removing them i was able to backup to internal storage without an error. splitting is maybe the problem.

My experience:

i backup data partition only to ext Sd....i get error 255
try again backup data partition only to internal SD, i get some kind of error with red text
reboot recovery..
try once again, backup data partition only to internal SD...this time ok, backup complete successfully!
now, continue with backup system partition only to internal SD...error 255 again.
then i go to restore, select storage to internal storage, i cant see any backup file there, the list is empty(even the backup file for data partition which i successfully backup previously is missing. )
reboot recovery once again...
go to restore, now the two backup file appear, one is data partition, another one is system partition(which end up with error 255, but the file still there)
now delete the backup file for system partition(because it is not complete)
try again backup system partition to internal SD.....this time successful again, well done!!
now backup cache, custom,OEMinfo,Boot and Misc all together to internal SD....everything complete, no any error
Now, go to restore.....again, the list is empty(by right it should have three files there)
reboot recovery once again....
go to restore, now i can see the backup files of different partition is there, it is ready for restore....

update:
after half day normal phone usage, the backup files gone by itself, i browse to twrp folder in both intenal and external SD, there is no any backup files there,
i don't know how and when the file being delete, this is really weird..

First of all, thank you very much for all your work on twrp and cm - I really appreciate it! After updating twrp today I noticed USB OTG support disappeared. After skimming through the thread I saw that you do not have an OTG cable - I have one and the previous version I used (20160609, md5 201c8879e7a3320d7f5dc67a5a470924) had support for OTG and it worked perfectly. If you want I can test more versions? I would really appreciate it if we can have the OTG support back in place :) Thanks again for your hard work!

@surdu_petru Hey bro. For some reason my AL00 variant will not boot into recovery, when this version of recovery is installed.

Yes !
You should update your device to the last Stock Huawei EMUI 5.0 !
But in the previous post you wrote:

So please, is this TWRP 3.0.3 compatible with c432 b361/b378?
Also:
- does touch work in TWRP (somebody complained that touch does not work)
- does backup/restore work to both internal and external SD, and do ZIP and IMG installations work from interal and external SD and also from OTG USB stick
- does booting by Volume Up + Power boots to TWRP or to eRecovery
- does flashing SuperSU-v2.79.zip flawlesly root the phone, and does then flashing AdAway_systemless_hosts_v2.zip
from TWRP plus installation of adaway_3.1.2.apk correctly install AdAway
- if I install Quick Reboot app (from Google Play) upon rooting, would Quick Reboot allow re-booting to TWRP

I don't know what are exactly differences between TWRP version numbers, but I'm using TWRP 2.8.7.0, 3.0.2 and 3.0.3 on a few other devices and all such basic things (touch, backup, booting to TWRP) always worked flawlessly.
Now I'm new with Huawei P9 and kind of shocked to see that there are various TWRP installations but for each of them people report problems with some of these basic features.

Please don't take it personally, I admire your work and efforts (it seems there are all kind of issues with Huawei compared to the devices based on e.g. MTK chipsets)

PS: Somebody mentioned "compared to official TWRP" or so. AFAIK, there is no official TWRP, eReovery is the stock one (at least for c432)?!
