Though the TWRP in the OP has the most capabilities, any of the other Ascend XT TWRP versions can format data partition just to make it accessible/mountable after flashing a ROM. Correct me if that's inaccurate.

Yuwengs worked mine is just fixed up version with more options etc and I know mine works I use it lol. also the settings he had in there i left alone so there shouldnt be any issues at all with my twrp cause most of the config i left the same so it would be compatible with backups made from yuwengs

Does anyone have a workingTWRP for XT2, OR a recovery partition? I flashed the XT twrp and it won't boot. I did manage to get into the fastboot mode, so am hoping to find stock recovery or custom TWRP....

These install instructions could use a little work... always back up a partition before you flash it - period. Then again, you would have been fine with an image built for your device. Ask around in the right places, someone may be kind enough to send you a copy of their stock recovery.

No stock or custom recovery available for XT2 yet according to the XT2 thread.

That's why it's important to QUOTE the post you're responding to ;)

XT is not XT2, so no executable files like TWRP or ROM loads designed specifically for the XT are going work on the XT2.

Not sure what exactly "needs a little work" means. Too many people here with differing experiences to satisfy everyone, so people should ask questions if unclear on something. :)

the install instructions could use a little work. (see the post above that I was replying to)

Sorry, that was a bit more judgemental than I intended.. I know exactly what you mean by varying levels of skill and knowledge - you assume the bare minimum being basic android system knowledge and maybe some familiarity with adb, but many users get here after a few google searches.

Should state the exact model/variant, the version of twrp, maybe link to the twrp website (as it is their code). Should also add a line to back up your stock recovery - even when you verify every md5 hash, things can still go wrong.

Then again, you compiled a working twrp for us all to use posted with a very obvious disclaimer to exercise caution, so what else can we expect..? There's still plenty of room for the rest of us, myself included, to improve on the various guides and faq's for our device. .

Here are the original instructions after the initial H1611 TWRP was developed :) .
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=69811031&postcount=1
They do address some of the points you brought up.

All threads in this H1611 section applied to the H1611 aka Huawei Ascend XT as there was no XT2 - so there was no need to specify the model number as it's already specified in the introduction of this section.

Time for someone with an XT2 to look into creating a new XT2 section for that phone and move all XT2 stuff over there to avoid confusion. You have to request a new section for a new device in a thread somewhere on XDA.

Yes, there's always room for improvement to any instructions - - especially if a newbie who has never used adb or flashed ROMs, etc before shows up and instructions assume otherwise.

But we're all doing this for free - and often people just want to come here and expect everything to be on a silver platter and don't even bother to hit the thanks button to recognize the work or posts they are benefiting from.

Anyone is free to take existing instructions, cite the original source/author, and enhanced the instructions as some have already done. :)

Admittedly, I did use the original twrp post as a reference while installing your twrp version, along with a few others (I don't play around often enough in adb to maintain familiarity). Given that we both already came to this conclusion, why not forgo any install directions and just reference that original post?

And on the subject of 'hit[ting] the thanks button'.. I admit that the I am often forgetful - I honestly just feel that saying 'thanks' is much better than some button that simply logs a meaningless statistic. But we all must give thanks where thanks is due. You simply can't take someone else's code and post it without acknowledgement - nevermind gnu/gpl/etc licensing - it's just plain rude. This is a developer community, after all. At the very least you should acknowledge and link to twrp, as well as acknowledge any who provided the groundwork (device trees, previous versions) to enable you to post this. You could put those links right after your request for donations.

That said, I really enjoy the work that you do. Your swift and fast roms have saved me countless hours of digging around and debloating. I'm going to be making a conscious effort to click that 'thanks' more often, as well as perhaps finding some time to piece a few guides/faqs together

Umm, you responded to my post, but I didn't create the ROMs you're referring to ;) nor did I create this thread.

There is now an active thread on the XT2, as a result of my mishap. Guys are making some progress, but we really need an update for it, or the Huawei elate.
(Apparently the directory structure is needed. I did get the phone unbricked, and sent it to enigma2446. He is attempting to get a CWM compiled for it, and faxanidu
is working on it. aslezak has a 64 bit kernel build, but it is hanging at init. Seems that Huawei is only providing 64 bit stuff, and the H1711 is running 32 bit.

Kudu's to these guys.

???? Can you explain the 32 and 64-bit part to me? I thought the ascend XT2 was 64-bit? Or is it actually 32-bit? Sorru for not understanding
