Does it really make a difference what kind of Type C cable you use? If so what is the fastest and best cable to use.

no such thing as fastest and best when it comes to things that stick to an official spec.

usb spec is a spec all companies must adhere to. one company cant provide more or less than another if they are making cables that use the USB 3.1 spec.

if you want to take advantage of 3.1 usb speeds, look for cables that have the spec clearly on the cable and in the information.

for example, i use these, but there are many others that are also just a good.

current usb 3.1 gen 1 cables that SPEC "10Gbps SuperSpeed" can only exist currently in cables less than 4 feet. this is the length the cables can be to stick to the spec (currently).

will no doubt change as cable tech catches up to make longer ones.

What about fiber optic usb cable?
That's a bit much for charging a device. The cost of those cables are because of the converters on each end.

The best use for them is the Xbox One Kinect to extend its range of connectivity. I'm sure there are others though.

I do believe also that Android kernel does have a cap on how fast the charge is accepted on the device, to better keep the components and battery safe.

Look up benson, he reviews USB C cables and points out the good and the bad.

I have few of the apple USB c cables and they're on the recommended list. A bit costly at $20 but it's more of a universal USB c cable that you can charge devices up to 100w with it. (Apple uses it for their 87w MBP) I guess technically all of his approved cables fit the USB c standard and should handle high current fine but I'm just paranoid.

Try Anker Powerline ll type c cable, and their other powerline + cables, they're pretty good.

This right here!!

Been using these cables , powerline series ,for awhile. Almost indestructible, charge faster the stock cables and transfer better. 6 footers great , but 3 footers feel faster, must be 3.1 vs 3.0 . Can't go wrong with Anker.

The phone comes with a 2.0 cable. So any cable that is 3.1 would be better.

Yea mate. Thanks for your input.

The OP asked a question, I asked for more info.

@jason504,

In terms of charging, they are not different. As mentioned, the cable that currently ships with the device wont give you faster throughput than an aftermarket cable.

if you want to take advantage of faster data transfer speeds of the 3.1 spec, you are recommended to look into a 3.1 spec USB cable.

I use choetech but brand Cable Matters is also another good quality brand of cable. There are others as well...
