Be careful, I think it does. Says in red on the installer that "this update will delete all information and data on your phone"
Thanks, but actually I don't mind if my device is completely wiped, in many ways I'd rather have a completely "clean" install.

I was trying to understand the difference between doing the OTA update and applying the RUU published on here.

We kept trying all weekend to replicate the reported bugs but we couldn't reproduce any of them. My guess is that using the ruu is the better option as its the complete new Rom. Not just a patch for the old 1.

I agree. I also have none of the bugs people are seeing but then my 1.47 update was a direct flash from HTC and not OTA. So the new OTA has been installed on top of a stable 1.47 install and not an OTA 1.47 install.

i just emailed htc and said Hi i know the update to 2.3.5 sense 3.0 is on the roll out but i have noticed on online forums that people like me with software version 1.28.401.1 have not received this latest update.
My desire s is still on 2.3.3 sense 2.1 and is a unbranded handset is there a issue with software version 1.28.401.1 not updating.
Thanks for any reply David.
They replied with Dear david hodgson,

Thank you for contacting HTC.
I understand that you are currently experiencing difficulties with Updating your phone.
I believe that the reason for this is because of a software issue.
The HTC Desire S, android 2.3.5 & Sense 3.0 software update via FOTA is being rolled out as we speak, To unbranded devices. The servers can only handle 30,000 updates a day so you will have to be patient but you should receive the update within the next 14 working days. If your device is branded to a network e.g. 3, please wait for the network to release their branded software. The update is only available ota (over the air). There is also no way of installing an unbranded update on a branded device.
And i still aint got a update:(

I'm also That's a better answer than i got from HTC Netherlands. I'm on a unbranded UK Desire S and still on 1.28. All they could say was that "the 2.3.5 update is not yet released for the UK". Which i doubt is true, seeing all the posts here.

You have been connected to Luke.

Luke: Hi Rich, thank you for contacting HTC Support. How may I help you today?

Rich (me): HI Luke
Rich (me): I have a desire s and was wondering if there is any reason I have not received the FOTA update

Luke: Can you provide me with your IMEI number so I can see what branding is on your phone and whether the update is out for you

Rich (me): IMEI xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Luke: thanks
Luke: Okay you are unbranded the roll out process is currently on going and will be for the next few weeks. You will recieve the update when we reach you on the list
Luke: The update is sent to a small number of phones at a time to ease congestion on the server

Rich (me): ok, could the software version i have on my phone(1.28.401.1) mean i dont receive it, because i didnt receive an ota update earlier in the year either. that updated the software version to 1.47.401.4 i beleive

Luke: You will still get the update.
Luke: I was just checking
Luke: That update was pulled due to instabilty

Rich (me): cool thanks for your help

Luke: Is there anything else I can help you with today?

Rich (me): no thats it thanks

Luke: Thank you for contacting us. I hope you have a great day.

After noticing on here and many other forums that people with the software number 1.28.401.1 have not recieved any updates since 1.47 (itself included) I contacted HTC support via the web chat.

Their first response (In my original statement I mentioned the whole 1.28 problem) was to ask me to try a factory reset and then scan for updates which should give me 1.47, and then android and sense updates when they reach my serial number.

I tried this but the only updates I got was two updates for the updater, as mentioned before in this and other forums, which did nothing.

I returned to the web chat and luckily got connected to the same agent! He then booked my phone in for repair, where they will manually flash the new updates for me!

So, anyone stuck on software number 1.28, get over to HTC support as it may take 7 days but I do believe this is currently the only way you'll get android 2.3.5 and sense 3.0.

Feel free to thank me if I've helped ;)

If you are stock and unbranded, you can run the RUU yourself (it's on XDA)

I was in a similar position stuck at 1.28, but after reading so many reports about HTC "repair" damaging people's phones, I decided to flash the RUU of 2.10 from here. It really was very straightforward.

Snap.

Why be without your phone for a week (or so) when you can flash the official RUU from the comfort of your preferred computer chair. Job done in less then ten minutes :)

What a **** up leaving a lot of owners potentially stranded on an older software version, even worse not to put out a quick statement on Facebook or Twitter informing people.

What they will most likely do is flash to 1.47 Rom. That's what they did for me. Then you should receive the Sense 3 update a few days later.
