Umi Zero 2: http://www.antelife.com/umi-zero-2-...reen-android-4-4-4g-lte-smartphone-black.html

A very strange decision to say the least. It's hard to get into the mindset of Umi. The Zero feels unfinished and doesn't convey a quality that would lead to bringing out another device under its name.

The use of the name is especially strange when the new phone doesn't look as luxurious as the original model (plastic back, copycat design etc...)

It makes you worry that they'll never solve the problems they have with the original if their development team is trying to support this new device and the other phone that's about to come out (Hammer).

Do you have leaks/news from UMI support if they have plans to improve official ROM 3.09? Or this was last release.

Maybe UMI people read this forum and can tell us about future plans.

Support from UMI Team? Forget it, they released new device: Hammer and Zero 2, so they focus on those devices. Software support in this Company doesn't exists - bugs reported since the first version of stock ROM (Umi Zero) are still mostly not repaired...

I'm not sure that's fair.

Umi have continued to support the Zero well beyond its release. I believe the device came out in November and they're still releasing ROMs for it now. That's not very common for a Chinese company and is extremely rare for a Chinese company selling at this price point.

Their biggest problem is communication and a willingness to discuss the major issues with the device. They set up a forum which was a very good step forward and they then appointed regional moderators to help customers which again seemed like a very good idea. Unfortunately all those moderators seem to be able to do is tell people to contact the retailer. It's rare that any useful advice comes from Umi.

The reboot issue seems fixed if you use the under-clocked kernel. I've not seen a reboot for a few weeks now. It's just a shame that Umi don't include it in their builds, I guess they fear that they've sold the device as an octo-core 2ghz device and clocking it to 1.7ghz would send a bad message.

The other big issue is the battery but that's a hardware issue. They've made battery kits and back panels available to retailers but for some reason they haven't been made available to purchase. The only way to get them seems to be to complain that your battery has swollen. Even on a good ROM I only get about 1 hours worth of web browsing before it dies.

I don't believe Umi knows how to resolve the remaining software issues (WiFi etc...). If they did, we'd have seen a release by now.

Finally, I really hope Umi are sending some money or devices Artarac's way. I love his MIUI ROM and hear very good things about his EMUI ROM. I use the MIUI ROM and other than a bluetooth pairing issue with my car, it does everything I would want it to do. It's stable, looks beautiful and is ok on battery (compared to Umi ROMs).

Ok, maybe my post wasn't completely fair, but I'm just disappointed. Why the whole UMI team can't do stock ROM as well as one person - arcatarc (his ports: EMUI and MIUI)? Why they don't answer to the questions about bugs on their official forum or facebook profile? Users can feel abandoned, especially as they see no reaction to reported errors, but they see more and more new entries for new devices (Voix, Hammer, Zero 2) ...

I became skeptical about the UMI after the "Lollipop" ROM. For a few days they claimed that their ROM is a true "Lollipop". They should immediately write that it is a stylized 4.4 (they did it later). More advanced users knew what was going on - Mediatek not released sources yet and in the web can be found instructions how to do themed 4.4 as "Lollipop"...

Communication and inability to fix these last few remaining bugs are their biggest issues. I feel that the Umi Zero is very close to being an excellent device but for these two reasons it will never quite live up to its potential.

The Lollipop fiasco does leave a bitter taste in the mouth. I really hope that something was lost in translation because I can't believe Umi were stupid enough to believe we'd all think it was Lollipop. Within a few minutes of playing with it I knew what it was and posted on this forum a screen that proved it wasn't Lollipop.

Like you, I also wish that Umi would stop providing so many different ROMs and would instead focus their engineering team on providing a solid stock ROM that fixes the bugs. Especially when you consider just how good a job Artarac is doing with the customised ROMs. His releases are much better than the Umi equivalents.

How to limit max freq when screen is off?

How to limit max freq when screen is off?

MT6592 is set to 1144MHz when screen off... it's a waste of battery.

bricked zero

Hi, I wanted to restore the original zero's rom with tutorial on umi zero forum.
SP Flash Tool gave me an error (i don't remember what was in it) and the phone doesn't turn ON. When I connect it to the computer it's recognized as ''Unknown Device'' When I delete this throught Device Manager, Windows update fails at finding drivers. I Wanted to install MTK drivers manually, but it's still recognized as a ''Unknown Device'' I think I accidently flashed Preloader. I used usbdeview to uninstall mtk drivers and reinstall it, but when I install it, the MTK usb driver has a yellow trianagle (code 10 error). I tried reinstall it few times, still same. I tried to use different usb ports and cables and still doesn't work. Anybody can help me?

Lost IMEI

Hi, I was trying the MIUI Pro v6 ROM for UMI Zero but I've lost the IMEI no. I've tried to restore the system backups I made, but nothing changed. I've been looking around how to fix this issue but all the solutions don't work. I've read that the nvram file could be corrupted and I'm trying to find a backup for that file. If someone know how to solve this, I would appreciate it. I'm a newbie in this kind of stuff and I'm just going mad.
