Quick microphone fix.

I found fix for the microphone issue of UMI Zero. I have battled with my self to send my phone to china for warranty repair for six month now. The cheapest price for the postage would have been close to 40€, with no guarantee for fix or even to get my phone back. I actually purchased a replacement phone, but it has not yet arrived.

I have no glue what these setting really do and I take no responsibility if your phone is even more broken after you fallow these instructions. For me this was last desperate effort, a real long shot, to try before sending my phone to China. I just found this on another forum and tried it out of shear desperation and it worked! (Sorry, I can't post links because I have under 10 posts, and the forum thinks I might be a spammer.)

On to the point of how I fixed the microphone.

First I downloaded and installed Mobileuncle tools from google play store.
Then I run the program with root privileges (not sure if necessary?).
In the program select "Engineer Mode" then "Engineer Mode (MTK)", and then "swipe" to "Hardware Testing" tab and select "Audio".
In "Audio" select the "Normal Mode"
In "Type" select "Mic" from the drop down menu.
In "Level" select "Level 0" from the lower drop down menu.
Enter 255 for the "Value is" and press "Set".

Select "Level 1" from the lower drop down menu.
Enter 235 for the "Value is" and press "Set".

Select "Level 2" from the lower drop down menu.
Enter 215 for the "Value is" and press "Set".

Select "Level 3" from the lower drop down menu.
Enter 205 for the "Value is" and press "Set".

Select "Level 4" from the lower drop down menu.
Enter 195 for the "Value is" and press "Set".

Select "Level 5" from the lower drop down menu.
Enter 185 for the "Value is" and press "Set".

Select "Level 6" from the lower drop down menu.
Enter 175 for the "Value is" and press "Set".

Remember to press "Set" after every value change! Then just restart your phone and your microphone should work again, at least mine did!
Hope this helps some one and no I will never again purchase another UMI product, even if my life would depend on it.

It didn't work for me. My microphone seems completely dead. Not even a scream is detected. And not sure if it is related, it stopped working the same time as my soft keys and back camera.

Could it be that the components are out of place (i.e the circuits)?

Hi all,
I just had a quick question if anyone can help, i currently have umi zero and its rom is UMIZERO. V 3.09, i see that i can flash to many other roms including umizero v 3.10 using rootjoy, if you have experienced any, which one do you think suits the phone better?
My judgement is that v 3.10 will be good and almost same as 3.09, as i currently have the battery life is average but gets hot quickly and i only experience reboots maybe once a week at night during charging so thats alright for me,,, thanks,,, :)

If you can live with the issues you are currently having, my suggestion is leave it as it is.....Of all the phones I have tried, none has been as depressing as the UMI Zero, and I have used sub-100 USD phones too.

Oh to be honest i expected a chinese cheap phone to have some problems, but i thought i will give it a try and i dont think i will trust anyother chinese brands again, im also thinking of buying a new phone but i think a chinese brand will be too risky even though low prices are tempting,, anyway thank you for sharing your opinion :) :)

I'm running CM12.1 since 11 Dec.
Miracle! All works. Camera limited to 5-6Mp, but all working.
No reboots and with an incredible battery duration!! Battery drain score: 10/10
Recommendable 100%!!!

Can confirm too - ROM works smoothly and supports all components of phone.

Noticed problems:
- counted 2 reboots, tried set is_cpu_hoplug_disabled="1" for governor but seems it doesn't help,
- back camera seems to be not so optimal configured, however it's usable,
- some people claims have problem with sound for calls (speaker and microphone) but from my device works perfect,

---------- Post added at 09:31 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:48 AM ----------

Ahhhh. now I have problem with volume for calls. Strange it's worked good but now something failed.

---------- Post added at 10:17 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:31 AM ----------

I have impression that problem with volume for calls happens when you trying change actively volume during call by buttons. Then next call has very poor quality, volume for speaker and microphone is on very low level, however reboots helps.
Anybody has solution?

Hi,

Hard to help you in such situation. Did you tried to put back previous battery and try to run the phone?
What is the actual situation with your phone?

Not sure you know. OrdnerKrieger has prepared quite stable Lollipop 5.1 with Cynaogenmod 12.1 for UMI ZERO.
http://mediatek-free-roms.blogspot.de/2015/12/updatecyanogenmod-121-unofficial-port.html
I'm using it from 2 weeks. No bugs at all, no reboots. One limitation I experienced is not so optimal battery drain. I hope this will be solved in future.
To avoid problems during installation please upgrade TWRP to 2.8.6.0.
From the comments, it seems there are a few serious bugs.

hello.
i'm from Romania and i use the phone on Digi network. the problem is that the 3g is dead. i have signal but if i try to make a phonecall or if someone tries to call me the phone loses all signal. Digi network has a partnership with vodafone called national roaming for when you don't have digi coverage. i manually selected the vodafone network and the phone worked. the problem is i can't stay n vodafone all the time.
any ideea what i could do ?
thank you
