Unable to reboot to bootloader on Gionee A1 lite

I own a Gionee A1 Lite (Android 7.0 ), I was using Magisk to get a patched boot.img to flash using fastboot. I turned off my phone and held the Volume Up + Power button to enter the boot menu, and selected 'Reboot to bootloader'. However, the phone just did a normal switch off, and when I turned it on after waiting for around 20 minutes, it just booted up normally, instead of going into fastboot mode. I have confirmed that the bootloader is unlocked in developer options (tried turning it off and then back on too). I also tried the Volume Down + Power Button, unfortunately it took me into factory mode which only lets me test the memory and root integrity. Can anyone tell me how can I access the bootloader?
