I was told many promises from HTC from phone reps that didn't know anything. Let's hope this is true but I doubt it. I haven't had any issues recently, I believe the issues are from Verizon.

Welcome to a thread revival. I am going to report the issue resurfacing once again on a U11 on Verizon. I installed an OTA to 2.42.617.7 the beginning of November and after a week of running fine it suddenly it stopped sending SMS. It receives everything and can send MMS but SMS is dead. Tried a new SIM, network settings reset, Verizon reprovisioning, even a factory reset didn't fix it. I will try an RUU soon and report my results. Obviously this problem is still lingering.

Have you activated your SIM in a Verizon device with advanced calling first? That is the trick. Can't just pop a SIM in a non Verizon device and expect it to activate properly. Then you can swap back to your U11.

Your SIM may be shot now so you will have to get a new SIM and activate it in a Verizon device before transferring back to your U11.

Interesting. Obviously this is something the employees at the local Verizon stores do not know. They mucked about for an hour with 3 different SIMs and finally resorted to, "We believe your device just isn't compatible with the Verizon network any more but if you have a look over here at our new iPhones....."

I will stop in and see if they can figure out how to do this and let you know the results. Thank you!

I still have my HTC U11 but I just noticed on my U12+ that I've been running on band 66. First time I ever saw band 66 on Verizon. This is only in my home so far, I haven't been out to check how it switches away from home but obviously Verizon is doing some testing I suppose. Maybe someone here who is rooted can check their U11 with Network signal Guru to see what's going on.

So here was my steps and how I fixed the "Unable to send SMS" issue. I could send MMS but not SMS.

Verizon re-provisioning - Failed
New SIM from Verison - Failed
New SIM, activated in a pure Verizon phone - Failed
Factory Reset - Failed
Complete RUU - Success
After RUU, reinstalled TWRP and Magisk, and restored Data partition from TWRP backup - Still success

My issue had to do with something going wrong in the system somewhere. The RUU fixed it.

If it was the Oreo RUU,.. give it 24-48 hrs and it may give you the same SMS issue again. That's what mine still does after doing EVERYTHING the "experts" think should be done, to include everything you list there and then some. So to make mine work consistently, I have remained on 7.1.1. And about every 1 to 2 months, the SMS corrupts and I have to wipe and reload again. I find side-loading the ZIP from SD CARD via DOWNLOAD mode is easiest. But certain experts will say it's our fault, or to find a new phone if we don't like it. But I LOVE my U11, and most certainly hope PIE firmware will resolve this issue for me. I was an early adopter, so I'm not sure if it's related my specific hardware, IMIE or VZW's specific provisioning of my phone, but nonetheless, I am personally stuck doing it this way.
