@ all
You know what's creepy, I use my xperia z like everyday underwater for 5months and I never used the dock.
Everyday opening the ports and no problems so far.

Answered phone in shower once, while leaning out of shower but hands and head wet. Did this on my second day. Have had for about a month and the speaker is still jacked up. Did the rice, the vacuum, and some other stuff. Speaker sounds low and like crap. Now I'm afraid to go near the water with a phone that I bought to not worry about having near the water.

I had those issues with the loudspeaker because of the salt.
I splashed it again in water, waited to dry and everyrhing superb.

Well it worked! Noticed a difference yesterday then today, just seconds ago, as I stood in line at the post office I get an email and it says very loudly "because that's how you get ants Lana!"

I made a underwater test with my Xperia Z in the pool and wanted to share with you all.
I can say no problems.
Submerged it deeper than 1m.(So 1m50cm)
You can't press anything on the screen when the phone is underwater.
I made the images pressing the volume rocker(Camera Zoom FX app)
If you want to ask something more about this, don't be shy.I'll answer :p
Here are some images of me and my friends

How did you use the volume button for capturing?

It says right in the post you quoted that they used Camera Zoom FX. :)
In the app, you need to set the volume key action in Settings -> All settings -> Custom buttons.
