Taking the phone with me in the bathtub (for a movie, reading etc) or the shower (for music) or simply rinsing it when it gets dirty is where my experiments stop. I'm way too pessimistic to try it out in a swimming pool or sea.
It is normal to want to know where you should stop with such a vague description IP57. People are going to be trying out all kinds of things with their phone until someone comes with a clear explanation or definition of exactly how waterproof/resistant the Xperia Z is.

I used mine at an indoor waterpark not long ago. 3 days straight and not a single problem other than watcher registering as a touch on the screen when doing video thus stopping the recording. The most fun thing was walking or jumping in the water with it and watching people gasp or yell "your phone!". Lots of people say everyday "why would you need a waterproof phone?" But that day nearly everyone I talked to in line and standing around all said "I need to get that phone" or "I wish [their carrier] had that phone". Not all choose to push the phone to the limit but I do so not to test it but because its how i choose to use this phone. I didn't go to the park with it to see what would happen, I went to the park and had a waterproof phone so I got to take photos and video of my kids first time on water slides and learning to swim under water, something others could only do from a distance.

I respectfully and strongly suggest you read with care and attention the manual that came with the XZ ad the threads written on this forum regarding water resistance.

You CANNOT take your mobile into a swimming pool. For the sake of sounding like a parrot I will again write water resistance is far from being water proof PLUS chemicals will affect the water resistance functionality as will temperature and water force regardless of depth. Take a look at some of my more detailed post on this subject, you could save yourself a fortune.

Regards.
i agree with you about water resistance but the phone is marketed as submergable, and technically as long as the phone isnt damaged its completely water proof

And to piggy back on this, when the display in the damn store is a live phone on a lever in which you can submerge the phone over and over and even just leave the thing under, then yea you're selling a submersible phone.

First, I don't know how many times this is going to have to be posted before people take note -

The phone is water resistant to a strictly defined degree, not completely 'water proof' or 'water tight' at all. Lowering the phone into a tank of still, clean water is different to diving into chlorinated water.

Do what you like with your phone, but do not be surprised if you damage/destroy it and do not expect help from Sony if you do, as they clearly describe what you can and cannot do in the manual that I screenshotted above.

As for this thread, see what happened to the creators friend at the water park -

Do you always get this upset when people don't listen to what you have to say? Point is I bought a phone that I can use near or around or in water and that's what I intend to do. I'm a big boy, I pay for my phones myself. Furthermore, I promise you I will not be knocking on your door and cry to you for help if I encounter problems . If you want people to take you seriously I suggest you stop demanding and getting upset when people do not listen to every word you say as the gospel. You're coming off as a major tool when you say things like I don't know how many times this has to be posted. Guess what, I've read it. Guess what also I know the difference between clean sealed water and chlorinated water. It does not concern me. Do you know why? Because I'm a big boy and I paid for my phone and I will pay for it again if I have to. The fact is Sony does not make a phone in a box with water to advertise that if you ever find yourself in a sealed clean box with water that you'll be okay with your phone. They are saying that submersion is ok, but not saying that you should move to the sea lab and live out your remaining days with it hitting up your boy flipper on your way to Aerials house to get some fin. You're probably calling me a major douche bag right now, but I'm talking to you how you seem to be talking to us. By all means have adult conversation and tell us that you do not feel that is safe because of this or that or whatever. Explain to us that you choose to air on the side of caution because of the legal mumbo jumbo that they put in there to cover their asses is something that you do not want to deal with because you do not want to have to pay for your phone twice. You do what you want to do and have your reasons too so I do what I want to do and have my reasons. But the tone that you take is the same one I'm having with you and talking down to you like you're some kind of idiot.

I think you will find that you're the only one calling people names, friend. Is that how 'big boys' react when people disagree with them where you come from?
If you read what I said, you will see that I said that I don't care what you do with your phone.
I just take exception with people telling others that it's fine to take their phone to places it wasn't designed to be used, especially when the specific situation this thread deals with is specifically named as one to avoid in the manual.
Just because you didn't destroy your phone at the time, doesn't mean that it's fine to use it in the same situation that you did. There are many instances of people's phone being damaged and warranty being denied if you search around the forum here.
Finally, you're the one that brought up Sony's display method as some sort of justification for taking the phone way past its limits. Not me. :D

Yes I called myself a name too to prove a point. You learn to talk like a big boy and I will talk like a big boy back. But some one who starts with "first, I don't know how many times" does not go on to say they don't care what others do because you clearly do to cop an attitude about it. Yes I talked to you like a total asshole, but maybe you should reread your own post before suggesting others do, get down off your soap box, and discuss rather than instruct.

You seem incapable of discussion without profanity, so I'd rather not waste my time on you any further apart from suggesting that you reread your own (over) reaction to simple words on a message board.
Have a good day. :)

Well please accept my appologies if my choice of language offended you, I will not use profanity from here out. That, unlike alot of what I have said is genuine. My whole point of contention with your posts are that we are here talking about what we do or did and why. What has worked for one and not for another. Nice fun discussions. Not what others did or should or should not do. Then you come in with post talking like we're a bunch of children who need to be told how to use your toys. Differing opinions are great, but like I said you should try to discuss instead of instruct. My above insults were not meant personally, just to try to prove a point of how you were coming across.

I live on a Stone Hill.
Everyone is responsible for himself.
If someone wants to dive in the ocean 10 meters deep than he should do it, not my prob.
But i follow the Sony Rules so that my phone will last a whilr.

I made a underwater test with my Xperia Z in the pool and wanted to share with you all.
I can say no problems.
Submerged it deeper than 1m.(So 1m50cm)
You can't press anything on the screen when the phone is underwater.
I made the images pressing the volume rocker(Camera Zoom FX app)
If you want to ask something more about this, don't be shy.I'll answer :p
Here are some images of me and my friends
