...

Once you have rebooted into the OS you will find the SuperSu app. Download the TWRP manager just to have it handy. And now i would install the TWRP file you have copied on your phone with flashify. I think it's a great tool.
2 ways to do it:
1. locate the file, click on it and choose to open with flashify then choose recovery and follow the steps
2. find the file via flashify and install.
(Don't download TWRP for H815 in the TWRP manager or Flashify as they are not fixed by @wolfgart (correct me if I am wrong))

once all this done and rebooted. Your phone will have TWRP and would be Rooted. Choose the TWRP manager to boot into recovery when you want.

I preferred to reboot the phone every time just to be sure...

If you have any comments, or i wrote something wrong, don't hesitate to correct me.

...
Great guide, but one question. Once the bootloader is unlocked, why do we have to 'boot' the recovery image, root, install flashify and THEN flash the recovery? can't we just flash the recovery on fasboot? I'm a nexus user and I'm used to that, and I don't know if there is any problem trying to do "fastboot flash recovery twrp.img" like usual here.

It would be way faster:

fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
fastboot reboot recovery
<flash su>

done

Does it say waiting for device after you did the cmd: adb reboot bootloader?

If so, go to control panel and device manager.. There you should see when you scroll down a bit: android with a yellow triangle. Right click and update driver, select from your pc and select from the list.. You should choose something with bootloader.
Now if its still stuck on waiting, restart your phone and re-open cmd.. Try it again and it should work.

i've solved!
i had already read about the different driver between smartphone and fastboot mode. i saw the "android" with the yellow triangle in device manager so i tried randomly and i activated auto download from windows update. Then it changed name in something with ALcatel, i don't remember exactly but i tried to execute commands in cmd and it worked!

Thanks to all :)

I looked thru this thread but didn't see my exact problem. I was running a 10e rooted.img, then unlocked my bootloader on my EU H815. Used flashify to install twrp, used lg restore to restore phone. Chose the ROM I now want to install, entered TWRP to make a backup and flash but my external sd shows 0b and won't let me mount. In Android, I have more than 20 gb free. It is formatted fat32. Any ideas?

Update: decided to try formatting as exfat. Still doesn't show in TWRP. Is there anyone that has any fixes, ideas, help?

Hey,
can anybody upload TWRP 2.8.6.0 image as their page is down? I read somewhere that the newer TWRP Versions have a missing parameter which will make the recovery not work...

Yep you're quite right. I think this guide is a little convoluted unfortunately, but thanks for the effort.

I found this was quicker! http://www.technobuzz.net/install-twrp-recovery-on-lg-g4/

Hi,
Just a little question before to unlock my phone.
What will exactly be wiped?
Will my pictures be erased( internal)? The "download" folder?
And what about files on my sd card?
Thanx for your answer

Does this method still work? i'm still locked on 5.1 with an H815 unbranded, it's brand new, just a week old.. i want to root so badly so asking if this method still works, the others are quite daunting to be honest

Does anyone know if the command: fastboot flash recovery twrp.img works in G4?? i prefer to do it directly from fastboot command, instead of just rooting and then re do with flashify

I don't actually have the phone, I was just checking how to do stuff on this version deciding if I should get this or the 5X, and I'm still doubting lol..

Yes, it works, when the bootloader is unlocked. ...and you can immediately root through TWRP after installing it.
