For now i wouldn't go with huawei if you want an active modding community to support you...
Yes, indeed. With this behaviour, they're sabotaging the development of custom ROMs during the "active" phase of the device. After the manufactorer sw support stops, there is nothing you can switch to, and you basically have a swiss cheese like device with security holes. Yay.
And so much for sustainability ... That basically forces you to buy a new phone much sooner.

In general I despise this trend, that manufacturers even void the warranty for hardware defects after you modify the software. This is crazy.
I hate this patronising on the mobile devices.
Why can't we have open computing plattforms, like we have with desktops and notebooks ?! ...

Anyway, thank you for the confirmation.
Is there a list with manufacturers which are closed and which are more open ?

Update:
As it may get a bit off topic,
I found some threads, but many not that informative atm.
This one is ok, and has some "good" manufacturers mentioned https://forum.xda-developers.com/ge...nufacturer-support-warranty-unlocked-t3750812

If I'm not mistaken - dc doesn't support P20Lite with newest android, you can post them for refund.

Yeah thanks i did that. But now what how to unlock bootloader for my version of android. Without bootloader code i cant unlock and root.
You need to switch or install the oldest firmware available for your model, get the bootloader code and unlock it whenever you wish, even with the latest firmware. What you need is just the bootloader code.

Method 1 dead

Just to confirm what a couple others have said, method 1 is dead. This is the reply i recieved to my request for an unlock code:

Thank you for reaching Huawei. We appreciate your interest and we are here to help you.

We understand that you are requesting for a bootloader code as it helps not only to change the User interface but also to customize the whole phone and we will do our best to advise you.

With regards to your inquiry kindly be informed that to achieve better user experience, Huawei has decided to completely terminate the unlock code application service on the 25 July and published the relevant announcement on the EMUI official website.

We are sincerely sorry for possible inconveniences.

instead of using dc-unlocker client, use HCU-client software instead. The software uses the same credits you bought for dc-unlocker. So no need to buy again. In case you are trying this software, please share the results. Currently HCU-Client is the only way via which you can get bootloader code. But I got my bootloader from Huawei website earlier.

Meanwhile, can someone explain, whats the difference between unlock code and bootloader code, as mentioned in both dc-unlocker and hcu-client website? I am considering this for a nova 3i for my cousin. It says for "1 unlock(read unlock codes)" it will cost 3 Euros and for "read bootloader code", 4 Euros?

Hello everyone. I downloaded de DC-Unlocker, did all the process exactly as the steps and in the end the tool said it was successful and that my phone is now unlocked. However, it never gave me the code.

Is there any way to retrieve this code?

Edit: It seems all the wanted was more money. I had to buy an extra 4 credits to click on the option "read unlock code". Now I have it and my phone is unlock :D
or else you have simply tried bootloader code reading, and then once you got the code, you could unlock using fastboot

If I'm not mistaken unlock code is to use another operator if your phone is locked for one. And bootloader is to unlock the bootloader obviously :D

I think putting a rom will unlock it for any operator hence the higher price

Correct

Incorrect. One has nothing to do with the other. You only need, and have to, obtain carrier unlock if you plan to use phone with another operator.

Thank you for enlightening me. I had no idea about this as in my country, all phones of all brands are unlocked(for carrier) by default. But thank you any way.
